from explorer started haret.exe
After about 5 min. the scrolling of the text stopped and typed "startx" on the extrem small keypad.
after a few min. just tapped the screen and there it was.

and what is the nice big hardware keyboard for??? ;-)

the only thing is the wrong calibration of touchscreen.... would be nice if this could be fixed fast because its working very fast (opening folders or programs).... a real desktop OS on a device like X1 is really great.....

Yeah.. like the others said.. fix calibration and then the "other" things if there are any :)

It looks nice though, well done.

Oh and in taskmanager it says that we only have 71 mb ram :p isnt it possible to make it 256? or doesnt that improves peformance?

An other issue..

it doesnt updates the screen until you click.. (the hardware keyboard does work! but you dont see what you do until you touch the screen.)

And is it possible to make the 2 silver buttons on the front side of the phone as left and right mouse buttons? (that would increase productivity alot :p)

you can edit the STARTUP.TXT for haret inside the UBUNTU folder.... there is an entry for ram size but i don't know what happens if you rise this up!!! im not an haret, linux, wimo ore any other expert.....only an inquiring user :D

How long takes boot time? I was waiting about 10 minutes and it seems booting stuck at some point. My device is x1a.

download from the mirror and everything will be fine: megaupload.com
See a difference immediately. I twice shook from the site and each time I waited for 10-15 minutes. Not yet downloaded from the mirror.
File on the site xperoid.com is damaged. WinRAR archiver an error when unpacking. Invalid CRC sum.

---------------

Incorrect calibration of the touchscreen spoils the good impression.
Неправильная калибровка экрана портит все хорошее впечатление.

i did set it to 200 but it didnt work :(

By looking at taskmanager. In ubuntu it only used 31 of the 71 so it shoudnt be a problem any way :p

    socket permission denied

I found the solution for this
    kernel is compiled with CONFIG_ANDROID_PARANOID_NETWORK
option which hardcodes certain user groups numbers to have
socket network access. so I had to add

    # addgroup --gid 3001 btnetadm
    # addgroup --gid 3002 btnet
    # addgroup --gid 3003 inet

so for example to permit the user "guest" internet access
the user has to be in inet group (gid 3003).

    in /etc/group
    inet:x:3003:guest

    HI

    $ ping localhost
    socket: Permission denied

    $ telnet localhost 22
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    telnet: socket: Permission denied

    $ ssh localhost
    socket: Permission denied
ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Permission denied

I guess you just put part one and two in the same folder and then extract the first file like any other?

At least thats how it works most of the time :)

I saw this on xda websit : http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1045910
That guy managed to install natively a touchscreen oriented version of ubuntu on a HTC phone. I think this is pretty owesome, and i was wondering if it was possible (because guy are adapting roms from HTC) to adapt that to a X1...

No need to help, is done.

Steps I have used to get Debian (Ubuntu's daddy) to run on X1.

    (most steps from http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=631389)

    1. Install debootstrap on a armel computer (mine was a nslug)
    2. (2,3,4) Format to fat32/ext2. hda1=fat32, hda2=ext2. Mount sd card.
    3. (5) Run debootstrap
    4. (7) chroot into newly setup partition. (instead of the adb stuff that I couldn't get to work) fix installation including USB networking and sshd.
    5. Get linux kernel with USB and fat32 setup (mine is from may 2010!). If you now apt/sources a Ubuntu distro and distupgrade you should have a ubuntu distro.
    6. (9) Boot.
    7. install lxde (appears backwards!)

    And here's a photo :)
    http://mich431.net/img/x1debiansm.jpg

Problems: no recent USB networking kernel. USB had been out of android kernel for a while.
no phone (even after looking at SHR/FSO).
screen reversed (lxde doesn't have X11 rotate).

The link is corrupt , can you please renew it if you have the file? thanks

This is all I have. Maybe something more on one of my drives at home, but I'm away and don't think there is more than this.
