markbc01,

thanx for your very fast responce to my post, most of your comments i had already realized! i used the diagram that SkOrPn posted on this thread several times, a couple of people have mentioned replacing the jumper with a .3k or 1kohn resistor, mine is jumper-ed, since when i originally plugged my kindle to my computer with cable and it went into fastboot and i used it to both root and then brick my kindle i think not having the right cable may not be my prob. i've read about the about the monumental problems prokennexusa's having with his equipment and the web attack not to mention his health, but i agree with you if anyone can save my device it's prokennexusa or amazon, since my kindle doesn't qualify for a replacement (bought at yard sale) i'm going to wait patiently for prokennexusa to sort out his tech issues and answer my orig e-mail with a rma and instuctions how to ship to him. by the way i have noticed the unit shows up in the device manager of win7 x64 as "usb composit device" in the usb section, but my attemps to change the driver to the generic omap4460 driver i found on the web are rejected as the best driver already installed.
thanx again for all you do for this community, and your rapid responce. lb

HI lbeau!

OK the driver issue!
Now, Prokennexusa already has prepared two excellent tutorials here on this First Aide Site that may help you with the drivers. They tell you how to clear-out or delete the old drivers, and even provide you with working good copies of the drivers!

I have used these methods and they work (at least for a while So, here are the "post#" (look at the upper right corner of each post to see the post number!)

Please go back to POST#s:
#119: Covers the adb drivers and links to the drivers
#339: Provides pictures on the process!
#1686: For instructions on how to delete and install

Post#119
======
In this post Prokennexusa provide information on driver installation. He also provides links (THAT STILL WORK!) to ADB Drivers and Alternative ADB drivers. Please read that post and download both sets of drivers. However, just in case you miss them I also have provided his own links here:

Amazon Provided ADB Drivers:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Ki...DB_Drivers.zip

Prokennexusa Alternative drivers:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/usb_driver.zip

Post #339
======
IF this is too abstract, Prokennexusa also has posted almost the same information with pictures for what you should see during each step.

lbeau, Please try these and see if you can get your Kindle Fire HD drivers correctly working…Who knows, you may be able to do some fixing yet

Post #1686:
========
For instructions on how to delete and install (again). This post is clear in tell us the steps to delete OLD drivers.
It also explains (again) how to make Windows show you any HIDDEN Kindle Fire HD drivers -even if the Kindle Fire HD is not connected!
Revealing hidden drivers is a necessary and great option! It is very helpful if you have old drivers that simply don't seem to work, but that get in the way!

OK That's a lot of reading and downloading and working on windows --but I wish you luck!

Good Luck

P.S. After you try these steps, you may have more repair options, but if not, go ahead and look for a post by Prokennexusa and see if he has a link for a message or to open a "Trouble Ticket" and it will help focus him to contact you about fixing your kindle when they get the files moved over, the links updated and the package ready for showtime again

Not sure I could fathom a bleeding KFTT. thanks! or yikes!
The Red Brick (with circle battery widget ) was enough!

Whew! I am lucky not to need a new computer now. Like my phone, it just works! Don't want to go through the hassle of getting new gear. I will wait 'till it breaks --or perhaps I should say wait until it REALLY REALLY breaks and then move up to something new.

A Forbin Project for graphics. . hmm I am disconnecting my modem
The one thing business computers usually skimp on is graphic memory & GPU (OK that's two!). The other is CPU speed
So setting up a good graphics machine with a stock business box is . . . ."exciting." Sorry

OK, Time to go for a walk through the Belasco Gallery before all that artwork is sold (at Southeby's) to the highest bidder for a new GPU

I put a Radeon graphics card taking up two slots in the thing after being assured by a tech 1/3 my age the power supply & existing fan were adequate. Looks great. I am currently frying up some bacon on top of the case while keeping a cuppa warm as well. An extra fan tomorrow, methinks.

As far as Forbin's pet calculator goes... http://forum.xda-developers.com/pict...ictureid=36130

I'll second that: you must delete all old/bad ADB drivers before installing the above, or it plain won't work. It shouldn't make a difference, but it does. Windows is like a fancy new condo made out of an old tenement building - looks great on the outside, but the foundation's cracked, the wiring sparks and the water that comes out of the pipes could charitibly be said to "have character."

Great, Belasco, thanks! I just clicked on your link and now my computer has been taken over by Colossus --and even my KFTT has become nothing more than a node in the Forbin Project. . . well. . . it "almost" was taken over.... It's a wonder Americans will ever accept Big Data, after movies like that!

I had to laugh about your tech story --several years ago we had the same thing when buying my wife's computer. About 31 days after buying a new system (always one-day after the return date!) I wound up changing the graphic board, getting a bigger (and quieter) power unit and (of course) adding more ram before "the boss" was happy... Still, having a built-in stove working while you create is a patentable innovation: "cook-while-creating"!

Also, thanks for the comment on the drivers! There is nothing more wearying than Windows device drivers. they are just a lot of work. Certainly the driver situation has been improved in recent versions over the years; but it definitely is still not a thought-free, or an action-free process. I can't understand that -even with clear USB device standard, Windows handles so many devices so differently.

Sigh! I am picturing a diagram...no no...a picture...or, actually even some artwork that walks the user clearly through the process of installing usb drivers that make the windows-Kindle Fire HD "handshake" a clear and simple process. . .Hmm...Excuse me while I check an XDA gallery to see if something like that exists ...

Just SFX, no worries. And it takes a very special cable to invoke that particular daemon. Now I could have covered the desk with tumblers and empty Jameson's bottles with the caption "FYI: 'ADB' DOES NOT STAND FOR 'A DRINK BEFORE'". Now, help these poor sods with real bloody banners. Me? I have to work on emptying some Jameson bottles out for, y'know, art.
