And the HTC Fyer going on with black screen, as there is no way to turn it off until the battery runs out.

Wait till the battery runs out. This is bad you can not remove the battery.

hold power and vol down until it powers off.
Try to fastboot flash only the boot from the 2.23 Rom, then reboot
I need a volunteer willing to try out the new procedure.
You need to have a 32GB 3G Flyer with Revolutionary S-OFF and CWM - nothing else will do.
To make it easy for someone who wants to try but is afraid of bricking I am going on the record to say I will replace your flyer if it bricks out of my own pocket.

I can try, but need to know there is a way to roll back to GB with the new method.

My device isn't booting Android. I can get into fastboot, but nothing else. When I try flashing an RUU (GB) it fails. Is there any way to recovery? I have a backup on my sdcard I can restore but I can't get into CWM..

Have you tried to fastboot flash the boot from the 2.23 ruu and, then, to reboot ?

P3As I said, I can sort this out proper when my new Flyer arrives tomorrow.
For those stuck, here's a recovery image you can fastboot flash that's patched for the new hboot.

With this you can DD your old hboot back if needed.
