Please tell me if I must do "fastboot oem unlock" on a xoom that is not bought from a specified carrier (it works with all carriers).
I ask this because I don't want to erase all data from my xoom in the rooting proces.
Thanks!
Sorry, not possible to unlock without wiping. And you can't root if you don't unlock. Just backup your data to your pc and be prepared to set stuff up again. For us flashaholics, the process becomes quite routine, lol. Please tell me if I must do "fastboot oem unlock" on a xoom that is not bought from a specified carrier (it works with all carriers).

You will put the zip file on your external sdcard to flash from recovery.hi...
So i have the droid1, and have rooted and unrooted many many times, as well as flashing custom roms on it. I have always been hesitant with my xoom and think i am ready to give it a go. Can anyone clarify what needs to be done in part 1 of the instructions? I guess what gets a little confusing for me is when i root my phone and such, its the sdcard everything goes to, but in this case is it the sd card, or the internal xoom storage?
Any help is appreciated, dont want a paperweight!
I hate asking for help...it's a pride thing and I also don't like being flamed. Like several others I finally figured out the whole unlock method but getting it to do the recovery image is killing me. I am in cmd.exe and type it specifically but I get an "error: cannot load ---file name here---. I have it on the SD card not in any folder. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I stand by waiting patiently.
Now I am really lost. I don't have a fast boot folder in my sdk folder. Can you give me a hand here?
I can use cmd.exe and reboot the device and fastboot, but no fastboot folder.
Thank you for your time.

Yes I put it there and I also put it in the tools folder. Still batting zero here. This one has me stumped, and like I said, I don't like to ask because if I figure it out myself, I won't forget what I did. This is killing me...lol
I want to root with PC.Want to root a brand new stock xoom.
I have java and sdk installed.
I want to know where to put recovery-solarnz-XXXXXX-XXXX.img?
i mean inside platform-tools folder or external sd card?
^^^Thanks.
But achieved my goal before reading your post
@For those who have problem with adb:
-adb is in platform tools folder(this you get after installing android sdk AND update platform tools( check in available packages ,only install this package as thers are not required)
-fastboot is in tools folder
You need to copy two.dll files from platform tools folder to tools folder to run fastboot
-all commands are through cmd
-you need to be in relevant folder(for running adb and fastboot commands)
-place recovery file in tools folder(not platform tools) because fastboot is in this folder.
-rename recovery---tiamat...img as just recovery(after renaming i had no difficulties as before i was getting android with exclamation mark)
hope this help
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
