I installed viper4android and a bunch of kit kat apps with allthe system/lib files necessaryto getthem towork and mine falls every time using previously discussed methods. Do you think if I do a factory reset and apply the root portion of the root de la Vega technique, would that work to allow the update using survival mode?

If need be I can just perform the whole thing over again. That's probably what I should do.

Another success story here. Rooted using de last Vega and only root app was Pen Window. Bought Superuser Pro from Chainfire. Unchecked Enable Root and checked Root Survival mode. Updated the Enabled Root again and bam everything is back to normal.

I'm going to try uninstall in viper4android and Google Text to Speech , both of which I installed as system apps. Once I get home to charge back up above 20% I will try again. ...

Has anybody tried modifying /system since updating, everything seemed fine on mine til I updated busybox then that "custom" boot logo came back after rebooting and wanam would not get rid of it .. debating whether to just try flashing the MJ7 odin file to try to fix where im at or stick with the combo of new radio old software ..dont want to mess it up worse since everything does seem ok for now

You need to install exposed framework again

So the what is the general consensus about this update? From what I read so far, nothing was improved and Samsung fixed a few loopholes which allowed to hide custom status, mobile hot spot without subscription and exploit used by RDLV? I think I will pass on this one.

This might sound weird, but I'm stock not rooted. Did the update and while it improved the quality of my sound through music...I lost sound everywhere else. Swiping the lock screen there's no sound anymore. I also don't have any notification sounds...ugh what can I do? Lol

I am quite surprised by the number of rooted users taking this update before a dev has dug into it. Just because you can re-root does not mean there were not any nasty (non dev friendly) under the hood changes.

^This... I haven't rooted don't plan to update... I don't touch crap unless Its dev confirmed. Perferably by hhashcode himself.

Mobile hotspot works like a champ for me still. I still have the CUSTOM splash screen, but status says official.

Used the VEGA root, never touched the kingo one yet.

So far (from my experience) Better standby battery life, MUCH better signal, and not the weird WiFi breaking in and out, also (this may be my imagination here) but the play store downloads are much more stable.

Hashcode took the update. Check his Rootzwiki page. He's actively working it right now.

Just wanted to chime in here:

I did Kingo root (just last night, in fact, for better or for worse).

And so, here's what I did that worked flawlessly with the OTA update:

-Remove SuperSU as a system app
-Reinstall it from the Play Store
-Update it's binaries
-Uncheck "SuperSu is enabled"
-Check "Survival mode"
-Reboot
-Update
-Re-check "SuperSu is enabled"
-Uncheck "Survival mode"

-Play around...

Root is intact and everything looks good!

My phone said "Custom" the whole time, but it didn't seem to matter.

Works for me too

Thanks given, and this was successful for me with no issues. Didn't debloat, have wanam installed as well as 4.4 apps (launcher, email, etc.) installed and necessary libs as well.

WORKED FOR ME!

Ok..so I'm on root de le Vega.

I have xposed and set the status to official.

Went into the supersu app and enabled survival OTA mode and unchecked 'enable superuser'. Also checked at the very bottom 'enable pro'. (I recommend buying his app just based on him saving me the trouble of re-rooting!)

Downloaded update. Installed itself.

Rebooted successfully.

Went back to supersu and renabled root.

Done!

Hit thanks if this is helpful.

Thanks given. Followed this guide, still have root after OTA.

    I tried the update!

My Note 3 is rooted with SS installed and I got brave and performed the update. It is a firmware update. The phone took it fine and rebooted normally with new firmware. I did notice I lost root. So I tried to root it again and it locked up big time. Got a warning screen saying it encountered a firmware software issue....Kies didn't help so I ran it to Best Buy. If you all didn't know, they have a Samsung specific counter with a factory Samsung person, who reflashed it back to stock original. Good to keep in mind if we ever get brave and tweak things on our phone!

Exactly why I didn't take it, anyone else know more about it yet?

I updated it on rooted note 3. It is a firmware update, 215 files to be exact. I did lose root. A tip, Best Buy has a factory tech rep there, and he flashed it back to stock for me

So I'm reading all this craziness (just read every single post) and I'm surprised to see all this clamoring over an update that doesn't have any feedback yet... is anybody showing any positive results at all? I don't see a single account anywhere about how this update actually makes anything any better but people are killing themselves trying to make it work...

DroidLife shows the update contains two fixes... connectivity and sound

My note doesn't have any connectivity issues and sounds fine (I bluetooth everything anyway)

Imma just sit back and watch all this insanity and wait for the dust to settle...

And to the people asking all the questions about how to get this done without borking their root or losing functionality they already have modded into the phone... "why are you updating? Is there a problem with your connectivity or sound that is ruining your Note3 experience? Is it just the word "update" that's causing all this commotion?"

Fun to watch though... you guys are nuts ... ... hahaaaaa ...
