So if I am going to stay on ICS ROM's going forward none of this is necessary? Let's say I wanted to flash a different ICS ROM now, do I just go into CWM and flash it?

Also what would be my course to repair the GPS in this ROM, I cannot get a lock at all.

Thanks

If you want to play it 100% safe, don't do anything using ics kernels with recovery. I flashed this rom with an ICS recovery also, and fared ok. But it's risky business. From here on out, I will use Odin to go back to a gb kernel and use the gb recovery to even flash any ics roms.

For the GPS, either get a gps lock using a gb rom and flash to this rom, or wait til calk updates this rom to fc14 which I hear is better with gps.

Sent at 1900MHz.

I guess I'm just not fluent enough in all of this language and remain thoroughly confused.

If I want to flash the fc14 update from Calk over this, what is the procedure?

What if I want to flash an entirely different ICS ROM over this?

Also how do I install ODIN at this point?

Someone please explain to me what the status of my phone is right now having installed this ROM using CWM from Calk's 2.3.6 ROM.

Flustered.....

Thanks.

You can install any other rom in CWM recovery as well.
We talking about safe way to flash. Or you can say about right way to flash.
If you are willing to take a risk (quite a few users bricked their phones) you can do it your own way.
It's up to you.

Like everyone is saying... odin a gb kernel/recovery in order to flash anything.
Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do :) Read the wiki at the top of the page for info.

cm9 is VERY touchy with recovery so you need to be careful there. with the stock builds it is PROBABLY ok to flash using ics recovery but it is still risky at this point. We need samsung and sprint to hurry up with the kernel source so we can see what it is doing. until then it is best to play it safe.

That's the problem, there is too much information and it is very difficult to make sense out of it.

I hear you loud and clear, one thing that would help immensely is if I could clearly grasp how to "odin a gb kernel/recovery". Is this something I can do now that I have this ROM installed?

Thanks.

Odin is a program that runs on your computer (windows) and is used to root/update kernel, etc... You need to use the USB cable to connect your phone and then push the update via Odin onto the phone.

Thank you, I understand that part. Is it safe to install Odin on my Windows 7 PC and start using it with this Calk 1.1 ROM currently installed? If so I guess I would follow the tutorial by Jerdog to do so?

-Download odin to your computer
-go here and download el26 w/cwm(.tar)
http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/Stock+Repack/EL26/
-open odin
-click pda button and put the .tar you just downloaded in that slot
-w/ phone off, long press volume down and power until you are in download mode
-press the volume up rocker
-plug phone in to your pc (make sure ONLY AUTO REBOOT IS CHECKED in odin)
-click start
-let odin run its course

your phone will reboot and you're done

Thank you! just to confirm, flashing el26 w/cwm(.tar) will bring me back to a GB based kernel and recovery AND it will also flash a GB ROM. Is that correct? From that point would I flash ROM's from ODIN exclusively?

this will flash el 26 kernel with clockwork mod recovery. You need to use this method when flashing back to a gb rom from an ics rom that doesn't have a repacked kernel...meaning a kernel that has cwm included. If you are running an ICS rom that has a repack then you can flash back to GB without using odin. You really only need to use odin if you are "soft bricked" or you are on an ICS leak that doesn't include cwm and are flashing a tar or bin

Some prefer flashing via odin using tar files, while some prefer flashing zip files via cwm

Edit: This is NOT flashing a new rom. Just to clear it up a bit. This rom has a repack. You can boot into recovery, make a nandroid, restore and old nandroid, flash a new rom, flash zips.....

By saying this ROM has a repack, you are talking about Calk's 1.1 ICS ROM that this thread is devoted to, right?

My issue is that GPS does not work on this ROM at all, so I need to flash back to a GB ROM and do the GPS fix. Can I simply boot into recovery and restore my previous Calk 2.3.6 Nandroid backup I made before flashing this ICS ROM? Then flash back to Calk's 1.1 iCS using CWM recovery from the 2.3.6 ROM? Will I avoid the potential bricking issues?

Yes. Just make sure to do a full wipe and flash calks format all before restoring. I've done it many many times...

I cannot connect to wifi on any ics rom I have loaded. Any thoughts?

Do you mean you can't get to the access key input, or you just can't get a signal connection?

Wifi will show that it is connected with IP address but data does not work. I'm on FC07 modem. Once I restore my GB rom all is good. I do complete wipes and format all zip. Did the same on cm9. No idea what is wrong and driving me nuts

I can't seem to get any sound from Handcent or Go SMS, no notifications work.

Will go back to the stock messanger to see if that works.

Anyone else?

Yes, I have verified that I am not muted and that notification volume is up.

Bugs

Based on my experience with this rom. Most of the problems for me start when i flash the ICS theme for this build. Earlier today the gps wasnt working and the sprint hotspot apk will let me tether for about 5 minutes before turning off, when I go to re-install an odex'ed version of the apk the ICS theme updates again and nothing is fixed plus my power menu wont display when I hold the button. Even better when I hold the button for about 3 seconds to bring up the menu, 30 seconds later it automatically restarts.

So as is I re-flashed 1.1 via recovery and my gps started working, the hotspot was on for around 30 minutes before I turned it off and my power menu was working properly again.

I re-flashed the ICS theme and my gps is working. Hotspot connects then auto disconnects(yes i turned the timeout to never timeout), and now my auto rotation isn't working even though its selected from the settings. I also restored my wifi sharing settings with titanium but nothing changed.

If possible Id like to see the volume rockers used to skip music again, undervolt, and the extended power menu but I realize this version is only 1.1

FYI- I've restored via recovery from ics rom with the FC07 kernel back to 2.9.2 and nothing bad happened (and yes the kernel went back to my previous one)
Maybe you can only flash cal's roms? I think I heard other people saying that they were using rom manager I think but I have no idea why you would want to.

Hope some of this helps. Love your roms cal.

Can be used with any kernels that have init.d support

It completely eliminates the need for an application to set CPU speeds or profiles
Easily customizable if you use a text editor(scripts located in /system/etc/init.d)
If SetCPU, Overclock Widget, Android Overclock or QuickClock Advanced Overclock are detected, the script is ignored, so it will not affect them
Awake tweak will speed up the CPU to max speed for 5 secs after waking up to eliminate any lag while unlocking, etc, then it will return to the profiles

    Preset profiles are:
    1.2GHz - 100-85%
    1.0GHz - 84-0%

Important Notes - Due to how this ROM is setup, a wipe is recommended BEFORE flashing if coming from another ROM(use FORMAT ALL attached)

You must have a custom recovery to flash this ROM

If your are updating, then nothing extra is needed during flashing as the update script wipes what is needed, unless other wise stated in the change log

Be sure to do a backup before flashing and read the change log
