[ZU_GPe][Kernel] Advanced Stock Kernel with Dual Recovery {v03}[20141019]

I followed all of the instructions in the OP, but now my phone won't boot at all. When I try to boot, all I get is a blank screen and a flashing red LED. If I hold the power button for a few seconds, it vibrates, but nothing else happens. I can get back into fastboot, but the Start option gets me back to the flashing red LED and Recovery gets me into the device's stock recovery and, as far as I can tell, is useless.

Has anyone else run into this? Thanks in advance.

First off: Do you have the GPe version of the ZU?
Second: Did you unlock the bootloader?

Yes and yes. I worked around the issue by following the guide here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/88520-z-ultra-gpe/

Excellent job DooMLord.

I used this Kernel to root GPe and it worked great even without flashing it. In case anyone else is in a similar situation, my steps are below:

1. Unlock bootloader (my opinion: everybody should do this anyway, Sony should have shipped it this way).

2. Download Advanced Stock Recovery Kernel on OP in this thread.

3. Download SuperSU from this link and copy to the internal storage / not an external SD on the phone.

4. Copy the Advanced Stock Recovery Kernel on OP in this thread to the internal storage / not an external SD on the phone.

5. Make sure you have ADB and fastboot installed on a Windows (7) PC.

6. Put your phone into fast boot mode.

a. Power off the phone.
b. Press and hold the volume up button (which is the button closest to the power button).
c. Connect the phone while still holding the volume up button.
d. (Phone will boot into fastboot and the LED will be blue).

7. fastboot boot the kernel you downloaded in step 2.

a. (On the PC) -

Code:

fastboot.exe boot full_path_and_name_of_kernel_you_copied

b. (Device will go blank and appear to reboot)
c. (WHEN the LED light turns PINK, rapidly press the Volume Up button)

8. You will now be in CWM.

a. Select install zip from sd (I believe it was in a directory like /legacy/0 or similar. Anyway, fish around the directories still you find the SuperSU zip.)
b. Flash it.
c. Reboot device via CWM option.

@DooMLoRD anyway the dual recovery kernel can be updated to show togari when trying to flash Roms now that u have this awesome device?thank you in advance whether it can be done or not!

Updated Recoveries!
- standard CWM recovery 6.0.4.7!
- standard TWRP recovery 2.7.0.0!
Recoveries now correctly recognize/identify device

this is stock zimage repacked with recoveries...

my DooMKernel is source built custom kernel with lots of kernel in-built features

So the phone downloaded and is prompting me to restart and install what will happen if I try to install I'm on stock gpe but doomlord kernel

There will be issues with kernel patching and install may fail...

Thats why be on pure original 4.4.2 kernel before you start the OTA install

Camera

I recently updated to 4.4.3 via the instructions in your other thread and then flashed your kernel. (And reinstalled SU)

I believe that my camera stopped working after.

Can anyone confirm, or does anyone have any other suggestion?

so i have done some testing on a users device and here is what i found:

there are signature verification issues if u try and flash a modified OTA zip

even after unlocking bootloader we cant flash custom recovery to internal recovery (FOTAKernel partition)

i have tried:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

and

Code:

fastboot flash FOTAKernel recovery.img

it flashes correctly but device still goes to standard recovery

then i tried with rooted device and directly DDed onto the FOTAKernel partition, the device never entered that recovery

so i am guessing tht Sony has blocked access to the FOTAKernel partition for flashing custom recoveries

only option remaining... use the old recovery in boot kernel system...

The kernel was rebuilt in June 16 for 4.4.4. I'm not sure if there were any changes or if v2 of doomlord's kernel will work correctly with the latest android build.

It shouldn't unless doomlord updated it... If you flash this, you should be able to get into recovery but the device should bootloop.
