Shutting off OTA updates would be the number one thing to do after root to prevent a lockdown. Kind of ticks me off that the Incredible is supposed to be the N1 for Verizon and has no root access.

Nope... Google's not misinformed. Read the description a little closer.

For Verizon's network, you can buy the Droid Incredible by HTC, a powerful Android phone and similarly feature-packed cousin of the Nexus One.

There is no CDMA N1. That's the closest phone to the N1 Verizon will see. So yes that would be Verizon's N1 or the closest phone to it they will have.

And back to the original topic: make sure to shut off the OTA updates somehow if and when it gets rooted to prevent the root exploit from being patched.
