Can't install Nightlies

Ever since CM9 went into its first Beta, I wiped and installed it in place of the CM9 Alpha builds I used previously on my Droid 3 XT862, a CDMA phone for which CM9 requires no patches to run as I understand it. Ever since the nightlies started rolling out, every attempt I've made to install them has left me with one of two situations. If I install a CM9 nightly and the latest corresponding GApps pack, without wiping it gets stuck at the "Upgrading Android" screen saying "Starting Applications" forever. If I wipe and install a CM9 nightly and the latest corresponding GApps pack, the phone never passes the Motorola "Dual Core Technology" screen. I end up flashing back to complete stock (requires activation and rooting) Motorola 2.3.4 GB rom every time it does this. I don't know how to get to CWM recovery if I can't boot into Android itself. Moto's menu Recovery mode option doesn't point to the 2nd init that CWM Recovery uses if I understand it correctly. I know an earlier version of the bootstrap used PB Tools to point to CWM Recovery. I think this is due in part to the fact that the D3 bootloader is still locked... I wish they would just unlock the dam thing...

I just want to know is there a way to get to recovery without booting into android if the key combo used during boot up doesn't work, (Power + X or M key for me)? In my case I can only get to Recovery by having CM9 reboot or using the BootStrap installer to do it. More often than not using rom manager or other recovery switch apps lead to the Android Exclamation screen.

I'm getting tired of the phone activation wait music every time I have to do this... :(

Install Hash's Safestrap. It preserves a copy of your current ROM, called the non-safe system, and you flash to a safe system. Worse case scenario and you screw up your safe system, you can just switch back to your non-safe. It is preserved and never changed.

I agree. Safe strap is better. The only reason I use the other bootstrap is because when you first start out you may want another ROM like Liberty in case ICS doesn't do something. I have to switch when Kansas is playing and I need Flash to watch it off of the Internet. It is just cleaner though with Safe strap once you get your main system up and running.

Makes sense. Wasn't there a tweaked safestrap just released that allows you to flash to your safe system?

All ics rom problems

With all the new ICS roms and the nightlies being released, are the renderscript issues within the web browser, the no flash in the web browser, on screen keyboard issue, and the hw codecs still an issue with the roms? These are the reasons why I dont want to flash the roms. I was looking into the CM9, AOKP, and Spearmint Roms.

Yes! Buy the DROID 3 Bootstrap by koush in the Google Play store. Install the recovery while rooted, and reboot to flash!
Edit: Make sure you are rooted but on a stock rom. FXZ to stock before you install this.

Exactly! Actually Ill shoot ya a PM with the app so you wont have to pay $3.00 for it. But make sure that you FXZ back to stock first, then root, and then install the app ill send ya. If you install safestrap and then do bootstrap, bad things will happen.

How do I get the ICS roms working with GSM? I am trying to get my service with AT&T working with CM9. I tried reflashing the radio and the replacing the build.prop, but when I do it, I can no longer boot into CM9. It comes up to the Cm9 boot animation and just hangs there. Also, I noticed that my ESN, IMEI, and other information are showing up as "unknown". I am unsure of what to do from here.

I found some issues on past few days:

- the background wallpaper is static even if I select to follow the change of screen.
- screen change animation don't work
- 2G/3G button don't work

- I can't edit the number of my contact or received call, before a call
- here in Brazil is needed to type before the DDD, the operator number. I can't find a option to put the operator number automatic. On the stock ROM I have this option.

Thanks

Most likely you have to sbf back to stock but you might be able to just boot into recovery and delete data and cache

Great rom, but it doesn't seem to have App2SD feature... is there a way to get that feature back from Gingerbread?

    I made no mods. It was like this right off the bat, while I was setting up my google acct. I had trouble selecting the text input box until I actually held my finger there. Thought it was frozen or something at first. I can't stand it, I had to switch back to liberty. Frankly until the camera works I can't use ics as a daily driver anyways. I use it a fair bit

    Could try these build.prop tweaks. I have them all at except I haven't adjusted the max_events because I find the screen pretty responsive(tested to see if they caused crashing for you lol). Perhaps just the 1of keeping the launcher in memory will help with what you're noticing. I have to say it seems even quicker here now but it could be placebo. I've also removed libGLES_android.so etc been messing around with flashplayer trying to find a fix but no luck yet, poor framerate in videos, like maybe 1 fps and it drops the rest to give ~27fps slideshow.

    Helps Scrolling Response
    windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150

    Increases overall touch response
    debug.performance.tuning=1
    video.accelerate.hw=1

    Forces your home screen launcher to remain in memory
    ro.home_app_adj=1

    Render UI with GPU
    debug.sf.hw=1

    The globalnwswitch thing is in the /system/app folder. Delete the apk from there

    In build.prop

    it goes

    "# Default Network type.
    # 7 => Global Phone (4 => CDMA).
    ro.telephony.default_network = 2."

    does this mean that the default network is already set to 2? Do i have to change the number '7' to '2' also?? Thanks for any help guys. :)

    I tried to change the setting in build.prop but i don't think it saved anything. Im using AstroViewer to do it. I also deleted the GlobalNswitch.apk from the APP folder.

    But when i reboot the phone it says 'process com.android.phone has stopped. Am I doing something wrong?? LOL

    edit: and one more thing. phone won't let me uninstall/delete GlobalNSwitch.apk. it said delete was unsuccessful and uninstall was unsuccessful..

    The # means that that line is commented out ie doesn't actually do anything. Its just there for your information. So yes default network is set to 2 already.

    /system is a read only file system. I'm not familiar with astro manager, some file mangers allow you to remount read/write. Look around otherwaise use a terminal emulator to run this command
    busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
    Make sure you are root first by using the command su if you are it should say som ething like root@solana (or something similar, I can't remember exactly)

    How does this do for a daily driver? I just got my Droid 3 replaced so I've got a fresh system to fall back on just in case.

    If you don't use the camera much/at all, it's a great daily. I've been on CM9 exclusively, for about three months now, and haven't had any problems doing what I need to do. The camera is a sticking point for some, but, I don't mind at all. :)
