Most people have updated to ICS including myself with no issues. It may seem that its not a good idea to update because of what you read here. There will always be more negatives in forums then positives. Otherwise there wouldn't be much to talk about. Some people rooted there Primes and deleted certain sys apks which led to update issues. Others received there Primes with no serial numbers making it impossible to receive firmware updates. Very few just from downloading the update. But most everyone updated without a hitch. ICS is definitely a positive thing to have. Also if you search the forum you will find out that there is already a way to root the latest update.

Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk

Imortant question Jjdevega I am suppose to download the Firmware before rooting correct because If I root before ICS than once Iam rooted I wont be able to reiece ICS firmware update. The only reason I ask is because since the bootloader is locked for now I thought maybe this would by bass the system.

Gary Key contacted me.

I just exchanged my Prime at the Asus US headquarters. Had wonderful conversation with Hai, whom Gary Key turned my case over to. Hai pretested my Prime before the exchange, and is going to test my unit I brought today.
Early tests do not show any improvement in WiFi speed at distance in family room.
But....
Yesterday Gary Key asked me to test on channel 1. Channel 1 does not work very well, but channel 6 does! Almost an acceptable WiFi speed (2-3 times faster than channel 1), although slower than other devices. WiFi Analyzer shows channel 6 the best on my router.
So....Stay tuned...

I would imagine most have played with channels. I have like 8-10 other wifi's I can see being in a condo. However, when I turn bluetooth on, wifi is all but gone. AKA nothing works. turn if off and it works.

This is a serious issue for a device like this.

Well my Prime has been there since Jan 11th, processed Jan 13th in the system. It has been waiting for parts. My problems where dead pixel in middle of screen, WiFi and Light bleeding. Everytime I call I get no more info at all. Tonight my wife called and asked for a Supervisor. No supervisors they say after 5pm Pacific Time. Hmmm it was 4:40pm Pacific. Anyways, they said they will call again in the next 24 hours with some type of response. At this point. Just send me a new unit and get this over with. I want WiFi to be fixed etc etc.... Have emailed Gary on the issue. Thanks for my ranting.

What happens on a public wifi like the Airport? You can not always switch channels. This is a band aide at best. I have several days before I can return to Amazon. I also have BT sync issues when watching movie from SD card. Anyone notice this yet? I tested both the LG BT earbuds and the Foxl BT mini speaker. They both have sync issues with my Prime but work great with the original Transformer.

Gary is there any chance you could elaborate on the solutions and what they might cover ie is it aimed at fixing only the bt issues or both the bt and poor wifi signal strength and range?

Well unfortunately I cannot wait no longer on this issue, as my return window was quickly running out, so I am just going to return this thing...Gary & ASUS will have another problem unit from this thread to test, this one coming their way via Office Depot return. BCO S/N, and PMed to Gary previously.

I am now weighing my options and considering getting another 32GB TP, possibly getting the 64GB TP, or just taking back the keyboard and the whole deal and just waiting for the next best thing Android...be it the 700T, or whatever else comes out in the meantime. I probably will give ASUS one more shot on a TP, just wondering if the 64GB will have all of the same problems. I am speculating here, but I imagine that these WIFI/BT problems are more widespread then we all think, and that A LOT of people just haven't stumbled across a situation where the WIFI/BT problem becomes apparent.

My problem became apparent while streaming music via BT to a Motorola BT audio receiver unit that is hooked to my home stereo receiver. Basically I would stream Pandora audio via BT to my home stereo system, but intermittently the audio would stop, and when I would check the tablet dashboard it would say that there was NO INTERNET CONNECTION. Then the WIFI would start back up again, and then after a few minutes the cycle repeats. It would do this with Pandora, IheartRadio, and when streaming music from computer via WIFI thru the TP and out to stereo via BT.

If I turn off BT and connect to the home stereo's portable input via a cable hooked to the TP headphone jack, there is NO PROBLEM at all with the WIFI dropping out.

The last straw with my decision to return was a pesky problem that I have not seen talked about anywhere yet(and not related to this thread either), and being that I hadn't seen it discussed, I figured my TP might be even more of a lemon then all of yours(lol) with it's own unique problems, and so I had to just return it now while I still could. This problem was that the top 1/2" or so of the screen would become unresponsive after exiting some apps. The app didn't seem to matter, as it happened when I exited several. No buttons at the top would work, nor would any swipe actions there. If I flipped the screen 180 degrees, the unresponsive area would follow the flip, so the unresponsive would then be on the bottom. Only way to fix it was to turn the unit off, then back on, and then it was fine. This problem sounds SW based, since it was fixed with a reset, but if very few people are having the problem I would be a fool to hold my breath hoping for the issue to be addressed.

Anyways, good luck everyone, and if I end up getting another TP I will be back on here to post my new SN and let everyone know whether or not the new unit has the same problems.

These are speed tests with Bluetooth connected to speakers and Bluetooth turned off.. it's unusable like this. I should be able to use Bluetooth speakers on my $500 tablet.

[Q] Has anyone managed to transfer files via bluetooth from any device (i tested with my HTC Desire and my computer (MB: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO) to the Prime?

I can transfer files FROM the prime to my other devices just fine but i can not receive any.

Also i have to agree that for a wifi only device that at least this communication method has to work flawless. Without fiddeling around with channels etc, since when i am traveling around i cant change router settings at all.

Yes I managed to do it. I just searched the market for an App (searched for something like "bluetooth file"). I could then easily transfer from my HTC Desire to the Prime.

I am using channel 12 on my Netgear 3700 and it shows good result with Speed test at 40 feets /12 meter and 4 walls away...

I have not tried streaming or else with BT, but IPad2 same place is 30-50% faster.
I have fibre 30/30mbit, and IPad2 is almost as fast as my laptop 28/26 mbit down/up

The Prime is downloading slower than uploading 15/22 up/down..

I have not "fallout" issue but the signal strenght in ATP is not goos as IPad or my wife HT`C Desire.

Bought my prime from Nebraska Furniture Mart last Friday. a BC serial #.

It definitely has the BT/wifi fallout issue in testing. But it hasn't caused any issues for me in daily use yet. Although I do have a few bluetooth speakers so it will be an issue at some point.

As a general note on the wifi.. It's not as strong as a laptop no. But it doesnt seem that bad really. I had a gtab prior, and its generally got a stronger signal then that.

Keyboard dock arrives today, lovin it.

Actually i dont even need this App, i just can not transfer any file with the extension "apk". It just stops the transfer, so the question is why cant i transfer android application files over bluetooth. I need to zip it first then it works.

I do not use BT devices..right now.

If I would like to repro this issue, what exactly should I do? What scenario?

I thought the issue was only for US/North America's devices..
But I have a BCOKASxxxxxx S/N too, so I am a bit worried.

The WiFi signal is lower than on the Ipad2, but I did not see fallouts without BT devices, but I have a BT keyboard and BT headset I might use later on, and I do not wish "surprises".

Please do an actual test of signal strength before saying it is "lower" than the ipad 2. All my tests show that even thought my tablet may have 1 bar and my phone has 2, my tablet is getting just as good if not better signal strength.

I have the same BCOKA... serial and don't have any wifi issues.

I tested plenty of times.
As I wrote in other threads, I compared the 2 devices and there was 30-50% difference, with speedtest.net and others.

Bars means nothing to me, but difference was in speed.

I have and without any extra app needed. Just paired both my prime and Atrix together. I sent pix n videos from my Atrix to my Prime. It was very easy n transferred with no problems. Very simple setup. Even able to tether through BT also to the prime but an app is needed on the phone side for that.

I haven't transferred an apk. Through BT so I'm not sure. But why go thru Hassell of zipping it n all that. Just email the apk through gmail tl yourself. I have done that n works flawlessly. Just make sure to enable unknown market sources in your settings.

    Good Day,

For those users who are suffering from the WiFi/BT fallout issue please PM me with your unit serial number so we can verify the firmware version on your unit to confirm our replication findings.

    Issue -
    1. WiFi and BT turned on and active.
    a. Stream a media source via WiFi for playback to a BT device (headphones, speakers, etc) and the signal degrades to the point where the streaming source stops and requires a reset to the BT device. This is the most common problem reported although using several BT devices (keyboard, mouse, headset) and using the Internet Browser to simply view media content has also been reported as a problem when using BT input devices.

    Sincerely,
    Gary

1/15/12 Update - Thank you to the users who have submitted their serial numbers. We will start investigating the production dates and firmware revision late today. Hopefully, I can start responding to these users early this week. As for users not experiencing this particular drop out yet are still not experiencing full WiFi capabilities we will investigate these serial numbers and firmware revisions shortly. I will also provide recommendations for router settings in the near future.

1/17/12 Update - We are still going through the serial numbers submitted and will probably have an engineer or technical specialist reach out to discuss system setup and check a few settings. I will contact a sampling of users who submitted their serial numbers for this follow up.

1/18/12 Update - We are contacting another subset of users today for verification of the dropout on certain configurations. I should have an update in the near future regarding this problem.

1/19/12 Update - Well, not really an update as we are awaiting test results from returned units and users with replacement units. In addition, I fully expect Service and Engineering to finalize an action plan in the very near future for the units with the drop out problem.

Just a reminder, for those I or engineering did not contact directly yet about this problem, it does not mean we are ignoring your problem. We have read all the messages so please do not be upset if we have not contacted you yet.

1/22/12 Update - I will have updates tomorrow and a new communication system with forum members headed up by a dedicated staff.

1/23/12 Update - We are finalizing a service side solution for the WiFi/BT dropout problem and hopefully it can be rolled out shortly. We will directly contact another set of users for direct communication with our engineering staff starting tomorrow.

1/25/12 Update - We are working on two different solutions now and hope to have a fix available in early February.

1/31/12 Update - We are continuing testing on firmware updates and review of hardware returns due to inconsistencies between units that work properly and those that do not. I will have an update tomorrow.

2/2/12 Update - Sorry for the delay. We met again with the wireless engineering group today to discuss the inconsistencies between units that work properly and those that do not along with potential solutions beyond rework or replacement. In addition, we are discussing with the service team to setup a direct communication address and procedure (as we did with the serial number not found problem) for users with the dropout problem. As soon as I have additional information I will post it here first.

2/7/12 Update - We should have an announcement/plan in a couple of days for users suffering from the WiFi/BT dropout problem or severe WiFi dropouts.

2/8/12 Update - We pushed 9.4.2.13 early to address the random lock and reboot issues plus you might see general improvements in performance including WiFi and maybe even aGPS. ;) For users still experiencing the drop out problem with WiFi/BT enabled, we expect to release a statement shortly (edited for clarification).

    2/13/12 Update -
For users experiencing the WiFi/BT dropout (complete dropout) issue we will have an update tomorrow for owners of those units.

    2/14/12 Update -

For North American users with the WiFi/BT dropout problem (WiFi on, BT on, stream media through a BT connection and the signal drops out completely) that have not had their unit repaired or exchanged we ask that you please send the following information to tablet@asus.com :

    Subject: <TF201 WiFi/BT Dropout – Your Contact Name>

    Body:
    Name: Your Customer Name
    Phone: A contact phone number
    Email: Your Email address
    SN#: Your TF201 Serial Number

A customer care representative or technician will take your information, contact you and might ask you to walk through a short procedure to verify the problem. We plan on reworking these particular units with a dedicated line process or worst case, exchanging the units. If you do not hear from a customer care representative or technician within 72 hours, please PM me the above information and I will have an intimate discussion with the service group. ;)

If you are in a region other than North America, please contact your local service team.

In addition, we will have a new OTA update next week. .15 Released.

    3/6/2012 Update:
I am back and will start answering messages.

    3/8/2012 Update:
Users who RMA'd their units for the BT/WiFi fallout issue and are still waiting on repairs should receive an update status on or around 3/12~3/13. Additional units and replacement parts will be at the service depots by 3/12.

    5/31/2012 Update:
If you are still suffering from any BT/WiFi fallout issues, please contact Tien at ASUS_USA for problem resolution.

Gary is away traveling until 3/4 as per his signature on the op here.

And when Gary is away traveling, the entire user base of a $500+ device which has sold (probably) a few hundred thousand units gets to sit idly by and wait for his shepherding hand to return so that they can get responsive competent support.

Really? How ridiculous is this situation? WHY ARE WE SO DEPENDENT ON GARY, PEOPLE???

Sorry for the shouting, but all these "Gary" comments are getting annoying. The fact of the matter is that Gary should be able to fall off the face of the earth (and I sincerely hope he does not) but it should not effect people's support experience with this product. He's one man, in one country, and even worse he's in Marketing. This whole scenario is maddening.

Edit: Nothing against marketing people, and I don't mean that derisively. I simply mean that if we're depending on any one person as the primary point of contact for support, shouldn't it be someone who's in support?
    3
I know this is a foreign concept to the digital generation but have some patience. If you can't use your device cause of these issues then return it, if it works then just wait, solutions to problems like this don't come in a week, two or even a month sometimes. In a situation like this they have to be damn sure they are releasing a fix when they speak so give it some time.

    Good Day,

    5/31/2012 Update:
If you are still suffering from any BT/WiFi fallout issues, please contact Tien at ASUS_USA for problem resolution.

As instructed a PM and Email has been sent to Tien.

    Video taken of my issue.

    I will update here once/if I receive a response.

The snark really isn't called for in this thread. ASUS is obviously trying to work on this issue. Go trolling elsewhere.

Agreed, don't be rude to a guy trying to help you out. And if the issue were enough to deter you you would have returned it. Though in reality you, like us realize the device's benefits outweigh its flaws. I love how nobody seems to remember the ipad2 has no gps at all without the 3g radio, and it also had diminished wifi vs ipad1. But its apple so nobody notices or tests as thoroughly as we do.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly am not happy about the bt/wifi issue, but insulting the only guy trying to fix your new 90%awesome 10% suck device is not the way to resolve it. He doesn't need to be here at all you know. Has any other company ever had a real dialog with xda before, ever? Not that I know of. Thanks a lot Gary, and remember for every immature guy telling you you're not needed there are at least a hundred of us that are extremely grateful you're here. Now let's resolve the issue so we can rub it in his face ;P
