[Q] [4.3] System file hacks undoing themselves.
To begin, I recently switched ROMs from WICKED V7 to Google Edition 4.3 as presented in the ROMS forum here. I like most of the things I'm getting from this ROM, including Google Wallet support and per-app permissions, but something's bugging me, and I wish to get some more information.
One of the apps I wanted to install was AdAway, which helps set up custom hosts files for ad blocking. However, it seems to constantly get stymied. Not only do I get the occasional failure and force close on the whitelist, but every time I reboot the phone, the hosts file resets itself to the original. In fact, the file seems to reset itself periodically while
the phone is running. I've already attempted to flash a startup script that replaces the hosts file with a symlink to the /data partition, but even that appears to have repaired itself after an hour or so.
Undergoing some research, I've learned this is likely the result of increased SELinux integration on the part of Android 4.3. I've been trying to find any threads regarding but have drawn a blank: most of the hits regard older versions. So I wish to ask: what's causing this self-repair and is there a way to stop this?
