Wow! If u have to resort to searching Craigslist for a "good tech" to pay to root your phone, u probably shouldn't be rooting in the first place!! Lmao... Anyways, what up razen, mr cook, and sampro? It's been a while! Hope u all are doing well!!

See that's the attitude StraightTalk wants... Just because he wants to use his phone with another carrier he shouldn't be able to because he doesn't know how? How is hat far? I do it all the time for people (at a decent price) so the money grabbers don't win.... You pay $350 for a phone (without a contract) but they tell you that you don't really own the rights to this phone... Straight talk as actually tried (and mostly lost) to sue people who unlock their phones since it is illegal now.... Why is there not a bigger uprising for the people who passed that law? The phone is one of the only devices that we can buy and then be told what we can and can't do with it.... How is this fair? And it wouldn't be as bad if they actually pushed updates but we got a $300+ phone that comes with Gingerbread and Samsung pushed the update already, yet Straight talk says it won't EVER be updating this phone..... I'd rather see people come to me or someone like me and get the most out of their phone then walk away because it was too hard or intimidating for them to accomplish....... but hey maybe that's just me....

You had to have put something in wrong. Capitalization, spaces.... Double check it and make sure you hit the menu key and save the apn settings before hiring the back key.
You are using the stock apn right?

Ported number to S2 installed cm 10.1 next day my number changed!

OK couldn't find this anywhere so here goes:
Bought a Straight Talk Galaxy S2 and ported my old (Sprint Network) straight talk number to it.
Used it for a day on GB and wanted more.
Next day successfully installed CM 10.1 and set APN. All seemed fine until...
I got up this morning and texted someone to tell them I was running late. Got a "Who's this" back.
Talked to them and figured out I had sent the text from a new number.
Phone info showed correct "old" number but calling old number got a not in service message.
Re-botted phone, phone now shows new number in phone info.
Not sure if Straight Talk just effed up and it has nothing to do with my ROM. Could call them but I'm afraid its just going to happen again and I should just live with the new number. Ideas?
My other fear is ST will tell me I violated their TOS with unapproved ROM.
Anyone else experience this ROM'ing a Straight Talk S2?

My apn is set up exactly as it is in the first page of this thread under "stock apn". If you'd like to post some screen shots of yours i will see if anything is wrong with them.

Never had this happen or read it in here. I would say you need to take that up with straight talk. They can't tell you're running a custom rom. Don't tell them and they won't know. Just explain what happened minus the rom change.

Straight Talk had no idea why the number got changed. AND they said my old number is not available, yeah I knew that, because it's MY number. Said there's nothing they can do, well yeah there is, they can call all my contacts for me and tell them my new number.

I would call back and ask for a supervisor. If that fails, Google around for the executive resolution person, Karen something or other.

Will do. I think I know what happened. I sold my Precedent on Ebay and it was delivered Friday. I'll bet the new owner called ST to activate it and the clowns updated the wrong phone. Totally STs fault.

Thanks again. The executive resolution dept. was the trick. Still have to wait 3-5 days for a new SIM card but they say I can get my old number back and credit for lost days. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You should be set. I've had to work with their executive resolution department after filing a BBB claim and though I can't say the issue ever got resolved, I did get the sense that particular department was a hundred times more competent than their tech support.

I just got back from Montreal and the Canada govt has this wild concept where if you buy a product, it's yours to do with as you wish! Radical, huh?

So just dropped it off a mobile store and they redid it for 30CAD. Now has android 4.2.2 (?) and Cyanogen 10.1 (?) and I am working diligently to figure out what all the changes/capabilities are with the new setup. Any tips/opinions on what I have here now welcomed...

Many thanks to you and the others that offered intelligent advise.

I picked up a Samsung S4 during this month long drama, and I am really fond of the S2...so anybody lookin for a very slightly used S4? I know its supposedly the better phone but the S2 just fits me better...Gonna look around Ebay....

Oh...to the great folks at Straight talk....kiss my ass

Also make sure it is pre-MF3 update. MF3 update means no custom kernel or ROM can be loaded :eek:

    REMOVING THE YELLOW TRIANGLE

    GINGERBREAD ONLY! (Root Required)
    - Extract the stock zImage from the factory firmware at the top of this page (I used 7zip, and needed to extract it twice to get it apart).
    - Put the stock zImage on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push (adb push- Copy and paste the zImage into your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage), whatever method you like.
    - Now using adb shell, or terminal emulator found in the market (if you don't' have adb ask GOOGLE) issue the command (capitilazation and spacing matter):

    $ adb shell
    $ su
    # dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

    This must be done as #, if you have a $ enter command: su
    You must already be rooted for this to work. To switch to a different kernel afterwards you can use the same method, or CWM without getting the yellow triangle again or increasing the flash counter. As long as you flash internally, if you use Odin or Heimdall to flash anything thats not stock it will come back.

    REMOVING YELLOW TRIANGLE ICS AND ABOVE!
    -If running ICS or above you can use triangle away found here- http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=22462960

    Let me know if this link gets killed and I'll add it to Dev host.

    Flashing other versions of CWM with adb (Root Required)
    - Extract the zImage (boot.img) from the ROM of your choice (I use 7zip to extract it).
    - Put the zImage (boot.img) on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push (adb push- Copy and paste the zImage into your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage), whatever method you like.
    - Now using adb shell (if you don't' have adb ask GOOGLE) issue the command (capitilazation and spacing matter):

    $ adb shell
    $ su
    # dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6

    or if it's a boot.img

    # dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6

    The op needs to be updated with this'd information...

    The latest cwm is only for kitkat ROMs, that's cm 11+. Of you want to go with jelly bean ROMs like the one you're trying to use, you need to use cwm 6.0.2.7 it's older but JB won't flash on the newer ones. There are a few different versions but any will work as long add it's philZ, AJK, or 6.0.2.7

    Since you already have cwm installed you can just DL the zips and flash them in recovery then reboot "recovery" and it will be complete. No need for Odin now. Try that and get back to us

    I think I'm just going to replace CWM with the new TWRP in the op. It seems to be easy more compatible. Plus I like it better.

    EDIT: Done. Op updated to install TWRP with Odin to be more compatible.

    since this post is in AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 section...i thought it might be compatible. i even saw a lot of ROM posts where they says its compatible with i777 and sgh s959g....so i was in doubt and had to ask.....glad to know its not compatible...thx....

    I thought it was...a lot of the ROMs I search are based on the i777 builds just have to make sure you have the correct radio installed.....I've rooted mine and used several different ROMs just based off of this thread. Searching the thread with the search tool will yield massive results. See post#5 from the OP that's a fairly good clue.

    Ok ok ok wait... Let's clear up some confusion. The one and only difference between the 959g and the i777 is that the 959g has its recovery on a separate partition by itself, whereas the i777 has kernel and recovery on the same partition. The 959g can use any ROM or kernel built for the i777 no problem. But if you want a different recovery on 959g you must use one of the zips from the op or Odin. If you had an i777 and you flash a new kernel it will also install a new recovery as it will be packaged in the zip. If you flash the same kernel on the 959g, your kernel will change but recovery remains untouched since it is on a different partition. That is the one and only difference between the two. Happy flashing :thumbup::D
