I want to buy a OTG cable for Mini. Have you tried an OTG cable with a memory stick, keyboard or mouse ?

I wonder if will have power to run a portable 1.8" HDD like Samsung S1 Mini.

Hi!

USB flash, keyboards, mouses and josticks works with SK17 like a charm with .042 and .058 (For flash uses Q5 Memory Manager, search in forum for that) USB HDD Seagate starts to blink indicator and i dont wait until it breaks and disconnect :( Likely phone cant produce right voltage for right working. I read something about HHD's in DooMLoRD threads, he adviced not to connect it

FINALLY i'm found some free time for experiments. Im feel so dumb, sorry I was absent for a long time :( Hard disks WORKS! 2.5 IDE disk connected like a charm, but only with external power source (for me it's another USB port).

To Slawernos:
Which firmware did you have? And what kind of cable you bought?

So tha cable i bought was not otg cable as described... ive dispatched the cable and shortcutted the 4-5 pin. This was the way to enable host mode on my phone so i can confirm its working. Im on rage kernel now. Experiments: Keyboard and Mouse(even wireless mouse that i used for test) is working. Confirmed. :D

The cable that i used : item no 380396053725 ebay.

USB keyboard:Logitech UltraX Premium Keyboard, wireless mouse: Logitech VX Revolution are working on stock firmware (.42) but no storage devices.

For storage devices to work, "USBOTG STORAGE MANAGER for ARC" app is needed (not free). With this app installed, a new folder ~USB Storage will apear on sdcard , where you can access the data on USB device.

I tried with A-Data PD7 8gb and with portable HDD Samsung S1 Mini 250 GB 1.8" and is working. (probable because S1 Mini is 1.8" small and I think is 3600rpm only) Fat32 OK, NTFS not working and other linux FS not tried.

well u can actually use a usb hub with a power source, so ur phone will just use the data, not providing the energy for HDD

I should work on stock kernel and firmware. It has to be rooted and busybox installed. the usb otg app has rooting and busybox check functions. There is no need to mount every time in app, it will automatically recognize storage devices.
The only problem is that last firmware (.62 is not directly rootable, only older versions)

Working well and I have games to work through!

I have not installed anything for OTG for these two as I tend to use samba for external storage.

USB OTG should work without root, according to me, it does.
USB OTG is not related to rooting or busybox at all.

I've spent the day using this (messages with keyboard and mouse seem so weird!) and realised that there's the problem of charging! There needs to be a micro usb f in here somewhere :/

    ModuleLoader-release.apk
    Q5_USB_Memory_Manager.apk
    usb-storage_modules.zip

2 files are with extension .apk that means i have to install these files on my xperia mini pro

and 1 zip file with the name of usb-storage_modules ...What to do with thhis files..?

    Edit...

I installed the q5 app and also installed the 4 modules with module loader

Can U pls Tell Me as soon as possible..
how to browse files of my usb drive on mobile..?
I m using xperia mini pro with 2.3.4 android version default settings

you need to be rooted(i think):D to perform the next task..
    1. enable R/W to your phone's root directory using "root explorer" or other apps.
    2. open Q5>select block device>choose your flashdrive.. usually denoted as sda or sda 1
    3. press on mount file system.. the drive should be mounted now..
    4. the mounted flash drive folder can be accessed in /usb_drive.

what about using the usb otg to a usb gamepad on my mini pro. will it work?

Depends on the gamepad and phone's functions. Might work on some games.

EDIT: Checked mini pro white paper, USB OTG is not listed there, so officialy support seems to be missing.

Sent from my WT19i using xda premium

do you need to have the xperia mini rooted to be able to use the OTG.

all i want is to plug usb memory sticks

As urra901109, I put the usbotg.apk from GB .69 at my ICS. I have root and busybox installed, and I'm using Rage Kernel. << Not sure what is need to use USB OTG.

With a homemade USB OTG cable and the app "[root] StickMount" by Chainfire I'm using my Kingston pen drive (8GB) normally.

PS: I'm using Xperia Mini ST15i

EDIT: My USB OTG function works after install BusyBox by Stephen (Stericson) from Play.
