Yeh the acer is 'unique' to say the least! !!
Look in the dev forum, there are a couple of stickys there.
One by civato. A guide to unlocking...read it couple of times BEFORE trying anything. There is really only 5 steps but if you don't follow things exactly, there'll be tears before bedtime! !!!!
Being stock, you need to take note of the boot.p file.
You'll also need yr tabs 'cpuid' to do this. Theres a sticky on that too by yours truly. You can download apxFlash tool to get this uid. It will also unlock the bootloader. Theres a pictorial guide how to use it in my sig
If the tool hangs, you'll need to use the manual method in civato's guide.
If you want to stick with your stock rom then use icsRoot to root. But all the custom roms are pre-rooted.
Unlocking the bootloader will also flash a custom recovery at the same time.
There is another option if and only if, you have stock OTA ICS.
You have some downloading to do so have a good read of the guides whike you're waiting.
Ps make sure you got both sets of drivers. From memory, apx tool gets u these.
Some folks using win8 or win7 64 bit have had driver issues. So if you can use xp, vista or 7. Failing that you can use ubuntu.
Sorry for the long post, but best u no what you're in for. If u don't follow the guide or try an take shortcuts you WILL brick it and if you dont have yr cpuid, chances are you'll stay that way.
Anyway good luck and let us know how u get on
