Yea that's what I figured. Reboot-recovery doesn't work. So basically with a broken volume up knob, if you get into a bootloop you have to flash back to stock with fastboot, root, install an app that reboots to recovery, then flash your rom or backup or whatever. It sucks lol. I have to be very very careful in my flashing. Probably about six times I've wiped my system then accidentally hit reboot phone from the main menu.
Did a bit of searching and found a hackish way to access recovery from fastboot, sadly it doesn't work for us
Did testing using the latest PHILz recovery (I used what's installed on my phone in case sh!t happened)
Download a recovery image (preferably the one you are currently using)
Open up a terminal in the recovery image's folder
"snap-fastboot -c "console=/dev/null androidboot.hardware=qcom user_debug=31 loglevel=1 zcache" boot recovery.img
results in a -- booting... \ Command restricted \ FAILED (remote failure)
It really sucks having an unlocked bootloader that restricts common fastboot commands
Hopefully that'll point you in the direction of something that does work

Did that post while I was still on the fastboot screen. Had to flash a kernel afterwards to get it booting again.
