I'm sure that it works.. Now I'm using it ^_^ but installing a theme, I saw it almost crash.. In case of trouble like malfunction of touch screen, I can't do nothing to save my phone.. with a non-touch I can always safe him.. for this I prefer a non-touch, not for other.. so.. anybody have it?? :D:D

Download 4ext updater from market, within the app you can download and install touch and classic versions.
But it doesn't matter if at your system is touch working or not, the recovery doesn't use anything from system, it has his own implementation of touch support and uses its own libraries.

Actually you have made me re think. Afraid I don't have the version for you, hopefully some one can assist?

I don't use themes as touch looks great out of the box and recovery is all about function not look in my opinion.

What you say about possible malfunction of touch screen is true, although it's worth knowing that the old style recovery buttons still work in the touch version.

But now this is for Madmaxx even though the old buttons work, as you've moved to expecting touch as input, there is no visual indicator as to which option is selected, I appreciate that it's going against the touch philosophy but perhaps it would be worth somehow showing which option is selected by changing part of the corresponding graphic slightly?

Flashable from recovery. Or extract recovery.img from the zip and flash using fasboot (I recommend this):

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

EDIT : I spoke to madmaxx82 (PM) and while this particular user wanted the recovery for personal reasons, i don't want to make it a habit for people to download the recovery outside the app... So this was a one time affair that madmaxx82 approved, but i'm now taking down the file. It's best to use the app for downloading recovery, for many reasons, and this is what madmaxx82 recommends too.

Hope you understand.

For everyone that has been interested at system/lib integration at new bootloader, madmaxx82 has released a new version with capability to include it and a nice feature to hide folders without zip files in the app and recovery :)

Although it's already been a while and so it's no news anymore, I *had* to post anyway ;)

4EXT Recovery Touch 1.0.0.4 RC1 has been released, after a very long testing period, where no "real" bugs have been discovered.

It's the fastest 4EXT Recovery ever :)

And got some new interesting features:

  • A lot faster than any previous release
  • Hide useless directories from the "install from sdcard" menu
  • New configuration setting to save space on your sd card by excluding /cache from any backup you create
    (recovery will then format /cache on restore)​
  • New configuration setting to save even more space by also excluding dalvik-cache from any backups you create
  • When you restore a backup and the md5sum check fails, recovery will print a warning and offer an option to restore the backup anyway.
  • Enables themes to be installed to your sdcard instead of to /system
  • Enables you to set your time zone for recovery to a fixed value, which is now the recommended setting.
    Otherwise recovery needs to autodetect your time zone on boot, which takes time and requires an additional mount.
    When you flash or download the latest recovery via the App it will ask you if you want it to configure that setting for you automatically (set the time zone to the same one as your rom is using at the moment)​
  • Enables custom tune2fs parameters to be configures for sd-ext.
    Recovery will then use your parameters whenever it restores a backup or formats a partition​
  • Desire-S HBOOT 2.x specific configuration settings



The 4EXT Apps also got new features. Some of them:


  • New recovery status: "testing"

  • Any new release of recovery will now get a "testing" status and a build number for the first few days after release.
    While the recovery is flagged as "testing" and bugs are found during that period, or some enhancements are made, the build number will increase and you would get an update notification (if you enabled notifications)​

  • Flashing recovery:

  • The app will now fix up your configs in greater detail when you flash a new recovery version.
  • It will also make sure it's correctly set up and that any theme for 4EXT Recovery Classic is uninstalled when you flash a Touch version.
  • If no time zone is set and you flash a recovery version that supports that setting, it will ask you if you want to set it up automatically.

  • Notifications:

  • You can now enable notifications to stay informed about news or updates to your currently installed recovery version.
    This is very useful in case critical bugs have been found for your version or there's an update.
    This does not create any permanent background processes wasting resources. A check takes 2-10 seconds after which the process kills itself.​

  • Themes:

  • Install themes directly from inside the app.
  • The app will make sure that the theme is compatible with your device and refuse the installation if it is not.
  • Configure a setting to put themes onto your sdcard instead of /system

  • Recovery settings:

  • Manage all new settings:
  • exclude cache
  • exclude dalvik
  • set time zone
  • adjust haptic feedback strength
  • Enable hide useless directories
  • Set your custom sd-ext tune2fs parameters
  • Desire-S specific HBOOT 2.x settings

  • Backups:

  • Displays backup type (yaffs or tar) and whether the backup includes ext3 or ext4 partitions or both for each backup
  • Allows you to convert backups between ext3 and ext4

  • General:

  • The app will now also work on roms using cache2sd/m2sd et.c.
  • Pressing the back key twice on the main menu will effectively close and remove the app from memory.
  • Added great icons, created by craacK :) Thanks a lot mate :)
  • Hide useless directories from file browsers inside the app
  • After you queued all actions to be carried out by recovery, you will get an overview over everything you selected.
  • Safe reboot by unmounting external storage before.


  • Recovery API for external scripts or apps:

  • You can now quite easily use both (free and paid) apps as a backend to recovery.
  • An example demonstrating usage for apps and shell scripts is available for download

i am coming from CWM and want to switch to 4EXT Recovery because of what people are saying and what i have read, here's my question, im using CM7 with Rom Manager on it, should i uninstall it? then install 4EXT Recovery Control and overwrite CWM Recovery?or should i flash 4EXT in fastboot? thanks in advance :)

I know about (mostly) system, data and cache partitions.
But what is "boot" partition used for ? At first I tought it was where the recovery and/or hboot were stored, but now I think that I am wrong...

Also, where are recovery/hboot stored ?

I am just curious there xD

Hboot was mmcblk0p18 if i remember correctly, recovery i can't remember atm. Boot is the kernel.

Great thanks for the information :)

My MIUI GB becomes laggy after some days of running, so I just tried to format this partition to install a clean kernel, well I guess this should be useless as a well done kernel updater would format the boot partition before install.

Looks like you're cooking up a revolution man!!! Would have loved to volunteer... but I'm revolutionary s-off so can't help out. But if you manage to pull this off, it would be an epic slap on the face to the stupid HTCDev unlock. I hope you manage to get this working:thumbup:

    Download​





    • This ensures that your downloads are ok by automatically verifying md5sums and that known issues and changelogs are easily accessible
    • When you install or download a recovery via the app it makes sure that your recovery config is correctly set up.
    • It allows to automatically setup your time zone for recovery.
    • You can use it to get notified about updates regarding your recovery version
    • You can configure it to get notified in case any critical bugs have been discovered of the recovery version you currently have installed.
    • It allows me to update known issues/changelogs immediately and to quickly pull a newly released version if there were reports about critical bugs
    • You can also use it to just download a recovery.zip containing the image. The download will be automatically verified for correct md5sums!

    By default the app also saves the recovery.img you flash on your sdcard,
    so you can use it to flash the recovery via fastboot in case you need to do that one day.

    If you somehow lost those files, there's a direct download for a version you can flash via fastboot.

      So you can make sure the backup will succeed before even rebooting into recovery.
      Advanced Backups: While you are selecting / deselecting partitions, it will display and update the currently needed space to complete that custom backup set.​
    • Identifies and adds your romname so you don't need to type so much when chosing a meaningful name for your backup
    • When you restore a backup, the app does the md5sum check instead of the recovery
      This ensures that you know whether the restore process will succeed before even rebooting into recovery​
    • Flash as many zip files you want in one go
    • Automatically calculate and display the md5sums of all zip files you are going to flash
    • Check your backups' health to ensure they will restore later when you need them, by verifying their md5sums!
    • Optionally, but highly not recommended:
      If md5sums don't match but you really need that backup badly, you might want to restore it anyway.
      You can you this app to fix the md5sums of a given backup​
    • As an example, the following is possible to do in just one session:
      Restore a backup, set to create a backup / advanced backup before the restore,
      format all partitions with a file system of your choice before the restore process starts,
      flash additional zip files afterwards, fix permissions and select to stay inside recovery or to reboot automatically once all actions are complete.​

    Features of 4EXT Recovery Classic:
    (Use 4EXT Recovery Control or Recovery Updater for complete Changelogs and Known issues!)

    not all features may be relevant for all devices



    Displays additional information:
    • Identifies your current rom and displays its name
    • Current filesystems on your partitions
    • Free space remaining of all of your volumes
    • Current battery charge level

    Backup | Restore:
    • Correctly calculates free space needed to complete a backup ( version > 2.2.6 RC4 )
    • Tar backups (can be switched on or off)
    • Complete CWMR5 compatibility
    • All Backups you create will be named after your currently installed Rom for easier identification.
    • Never unwillingly get "downgraded" to EXT3 again
    • Always restores backups using the file systems you HAD on your partitions at the time of creation!
      -> all partitions formatted with ext4 at that time, will be restored to ext4. The same is true for ext3.​
    • You can manually change any existing Backup to ext4 or ext3
      -> so that after a restore, all partitions and up with the file system you wanted!​
    • Advanced Backup: backup only a single partition
    • Convert any of your partitions to EXT4 or EXT3 without data loss.

    Formatting:
    • When you wipe or format it will always use the same file system you currently have.
      -> but you can change that​
    • When you format ext4 it will always create an aligned file system
    • Correctly identifies unformatted sd-ext partitions
      -> if it finds one it displays a warning and suggests you may format them by visiting the 4EXT menu​
    • Filesystem check and repair option in advanced menu

    Partitioning:
    • Alignment check of your partitions
    • Full support for up to 2 sd-ext partitions + swap (Backup/restore/format/convert, fsck, et.c.)
    • (RE-) Partition your sdcard for sd-ext without removing your fat32 partition.
    • All partitions created with 4EXTRecovery will be perfectly aligned to 4k

    Installing:
    • Integrated md5sum checking option

    How to make use of 4EXT Recovery Touch from within updater-scripts:​

    Since Beta 1.0.0.3 Beta 4 you can do the following:

    • identify whether the user is running 4EXT Recovery Touch or not (to use or not to use the following commands)
    • make use of the native yes/no dialogue (confirm / cancel buttons)
    • prevent recovery from redrawing the screen ( in case you need to use your own 3rd party interactive binary )

    Just to bump the thread, as a new version of 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.6 RC1 is now available as of 31/12/2013 and all finally packaged up early this morning 01/01/2014 so thanks for this at New Years!

    To get your hands on the recovery.img, download 4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC1.zip using the 4EXT Apps.

    The Free 4EXT Recovery Updater v2.4.6b App.
    Or the Paid 4EXT Recovery Control App.

    Version v1.0.0.6 RC1 is required for the Android 4.4 KitKat ROMs and GAPPs.

    Here is the changelog for 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.6 RC1.
    - Based on the rock solid v1.0.0.5 RC9
    - Added support for SELinux needed by some Android 4.4 roms.
