I have nexus 7 2(2013)
After test many app for SMS just Textera v 1.43 work for me

Messaging

I just compile and extract the stock MMS app from a ROM and then put it on my Nexus, mount R/W, change permissions 644, mount r/o and reboot and works perfectly.
