I still cannot get the Wifi to work. It used to work when booted with the keyboard, but now it does not work at all.
In the network option in Ubuntu there are two greyed messages:
Wireless Network (p2p0) device not managed
Wireless network (wlan0) device not ready

I have no idea what happened and I cannot get to fix it. If somebody can help, I would really appreciate it:)

Try opening a terminal and entering

service wireless restart
service wireless status

Re: Native Ubuntu Linux on Infinity tf700 v0.8.1

Problem fixed. I created a new rootfs, but all my settings were actually there (compiz configuration, status bar change, xfc4 theme...). I actually just had to reinstall xubuntu desktop and a few programs.

Now WiFi is working both with and without the dock station.

The only problem I have is getting the battery icon to work. It doesn't display the real battery, it just says that it is always empty.
Did the drivers you installed for the battery icon display only compatible with Unity, Rabits?
Do you have an idea why it doesn't work with xfce?

---------- Post added at 07:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:49 PM ----------

Edit: Is there any way to get rootfs images made for nexus 7 boot on the TF700? I couldn't get any to work. I thout recompilling should not be necessary, but I am not sure now. What do you think?

So, to do this - you can use our boot.blob and prepare rootfs in tar archive (now, compressed by lzma), then test and release it)) All need information you can find in DEV thread and GitHub repo.

Does this mean to use the installer again and it will install my second rootfs and then give menu option for booting either one?

@rabits - I almost have Xfce4 on my Arch-rootfs loading. I'm using your xorg.conf and there are some modules that don't seem to be loaded. Too tired right now, but if you get a chance here is my xorg log . Any hints would be great. And like I said before, I am trying to keep the rootfs as clean and generic as possible until it works well enough to get a snapshot of it to upload for others to use.

Edit: Got some sleep and ...

Hi xda forum!

I have an TF700t with cyanogenmod 10.1 and TWRP revcovery.

I installed version 0.8.1 yesterday and fall asleep during the installation. Today I booted my Tablet up and Ubuntu startet. I logged in with the password "ubuntu" and the screen went black. My device takes no reaction whatever I do. I tried to press vol. down and power but nothing happend. I also pressed the hard reset butten on top of the micro hdmi. Nothing changes after houres of charging. Does anyone have an soulution for that or is my device totally bricked?

Thanks for every answer.

Edit: After more than 5h the battery indicator finaly went green.

rabit, every day, many times, I look here, probably like everyone else, to check the progress of work on port of ubuntu or ubuntu touch.
Thank you for your work, and ask that you wanted to give us every time an approximate time for the next update?
Thank you!

Try holding down the power button for a long time. Just keep holding it and it should reboot after a few seconds.

Does anyone know if I'd be able to edit videos on this? I just recently got a gopro for a 6 month trip abroad and I'm hoping to edit together videos while I'm on this trip.

hey rabits

Any possibility of getting Suspend to RAM working? Honestly this would make this latest release the closest thing to a full time android replacement.

Additionally, I've seen you mentioned that SDcard support is poor.. does this mean that installing rootfs to SD will give worse performance than internal SD?

Driver? No, of course. You can use upowerd or /sys/class/power_supply (I'm using it in awesome wm widget) to find info about batteries.

You already use nexus7 image 12.10. Currently I'm stopped porting of 13.04 ubuntu basic image, because spring is here)) So, 12.10 is pretty stable and covered all my needs. Of course, I will prepare new 13.04 img, but I don't know when.

Wow, this is sadly... Try to give the tablet for professionals to diagnose, maybe it is really died. No luck.

You can do simple video edit in linux, and this tablet can help you, I think. But for pro-editing you will need a laptop, of course.

Currently no. I'm trying with suspend, but seems like Xorg is not supported early suspend...

I have some problems with microsd card only. Also yes, you loose some IO speed if linux will be installed on external sdcard.

    Hi, Guys

Currently I'm working on preparing Linux boot and rootfs image for tf700 device.
Project is based on Nexus 7 Ubuntu installer, Linaro distribution and Hundsbuah kernel.

    Release version 0.8.3

    Developers thread is here

    Warning!
    • You can brick your device or loose all your data. I'm not to be held responsible if you damage or brick your device. Please, be careful.
    • This manual has been prepared for the advanced users. You are an advanced user?
      • You have linux experience
      • If there is a problem - you contact support and provide all the necessary information (devices info, steps to reproduce, logs)
    • Please, change password for ubuntu user at first login. Default password is "ubuntu".

    Components:
This system consists of several components:

    • Access to recovery & zip upgrade
    • > 3Gb free space in tf700 /sdcard folder or external storage
    Process:
    1. Get linux-install-0.8.3.zip (12 Mb), (mirror) MD5: 46e458791d232dafa7df49a7b506beca
    2. Get need rootfs:
    3. Copy linux-install-*.zip and rootfs-*.tar.lzma to your SDcard or /sdcard on your tf700
    4. Reboot to recovery mode
    5. Run linux-install-*.zip
    6. Next, next, next ))
    7. Wait, wait...
    8. Done, now you can reboot and see four penguins!
    9. If you have a problem with installation process - please, save install log and attach it to your help request message with good description.

    Uninstall:
Really? I feel so sad :p
To complete uninstall multiboot & linux you need:
    • Reinstall your Android distributive or kernel part of it (this is replaces bootimage with multiboot)
    • Remove /data/media/linux directory with linux root file systems

    Epilogue:
Currently we have basic linux environment with graphics and internet. For now, Android is more friendly to the user on a Tablet PC, but we can tilt the balance to Ubuntu advantage.

If you have any question about usage - please, post it here.
    11
Sorry, guys, at the moment I do not have much time for supporting. All general ubuntu questions - please search in google (such as mounting sdcard, etc.).
I am currently working on the problems with the complete installation by Aroma, migrate to Ubuntu Raring 13.04, problem of the font size, correcting of keyboard keymap, problem with suspend to RAM, totem HW video decoding...

Next release (0.8.0) will be released in near 2 weeks.

    Ubuntu Touch

    So, I have some news:
    • I will prepare Ubuntu Touch tar-archive for my updated 0.8.1 installer & bootloader at this weekend)) This is really interesting and good experience! Ubuntu based on low-level android binaries - this is a very interesting solution, which is a clear way in the future.
    • Also I change my basic Android from CROMI to CM.
    7
Really appreciate you effort! Why not post this in the developers forum, where you might get some good inputs from other brainy people like yourself.
I would like to prepare this howto (after stabilization and fixing minor bugs) for general users. But thanx for you response - brainy people do not come here?
    7
How does this vary from the other Ubuntu effort? Why not combine resources?
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1988170

That would be great! At the moment I'm trying to run their environment using fastboot and find differences. I already sent message to jaybob413 and we try to combine our resources.
