DONATE TO ME
Question [Q] So uh... what are the odds of....

.. being an early adopter, and running into huge issues? O_O this is my first Nexus device I am going to purchase, and I'm planning on ordering it day 1. Should I be weary of "defects" from a first batch or no? Has this happened previously with a Nexus PHONE? (not a tablet).

I'm planning not to "wait a couple weeks and see the reviews" because in reality, we all got the same phone, so why wait to get the SAME phone? The only difference will be knowing what the "defects" are, which I honestly don't think there will be a whole lot plagued with this..

There shouldn't be major hardware defects. Although software glitches should be expected and Google will push an update to solve those relatively quickly.

You shouldn't experience any hardware glitches

The same with buying any other smartphone.

Every smartphone out there has flaws that get blown out of proportion when released. Huge flaws? rarely.

Still you can bet your *** that I'm not spending $349 on a device until I feel certain, through enough reviews and early adopter feedback, that the issues are minor enough that they won't bother me. Otherwise I might have to pay a $50 restocking fee when returning it

Indeed. Just think of it this way. This is the Google development phone. So it's likely Larry, Sergey, Andy Rubin and the rest of the Google team are using. If it's broke, they are going to fix it for them and quick to get it usable since, well, it's them. By product is that we will get the same fixes quite quickly Best thing this time is that we are using the exact same model as them, no weird off variants like the Verizon LTE model.

They probably have special editions with LTE and micro sim cards

In case of galaxy nexus, the initial units were great (as far as I know). Just wait a little over a week, see reviews from the real users, and you'll be fine.

I stumbled upon the GNex quite late, when the faulty units had already started shipping, my dilemma has been about all the screen issues with it...

Dunno about that... If the overheating thing as reported by Anandtech is true, that's a pretty big deal hardware wise.

I think running about 10 benchmarking tests would get any phone "hot". I'm sure the glass has a little to do with this when almost every other phone in the category is using plastic on the back.

I don't think any of the other reviews besides anandtrch noticed the heat but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Also, I was on the same boat as you in terms of being a day 1 purchaser, but after seeing the benchmarking results I've decided to wait a few weeks before ordering.

I do remember back then the i9000M got the internal storage problem,
It was pretty major and you have to send it back to Bell to fix.

And I was those people who got it off a private seller too ;C
