I'm a Noob :'(

it says to "Click PDA and select *.tar.md5" but I only have *tar. I tried to rename it but it didn't change anything...

If there are other files too, that are needed to be put in Odin program, can anyone send other files too? Or at least give the link for them. I have only the one uploaded here the JW4_JW4_JW4.tar one.

Follow the instructions on first page :-

Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe Cache
Take Out Your battery & put it back in
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
Then finally click START!

Don't alter anything, just put the file you downloaded into PDA.

But there isn't any *tar.md5 ! There is only the one which is *tar !
That is what drives me crazy. When I put it as it is (*.tar) Odin says that file is not known or corrupted, and when I change it to *tar.md5, Odin again cannot recognize the file...

I've done the flashing at least 8 times yesterday, and no results. And I had to return to my previous one :(

Roaming Sign

Hi! I'm new to all this this but i have managed to update my phone to XXJVU and then to XXJW4. My problem is that i have the little "R" sign above my signal bar allways. I got my 3G working when Data Roaming is enabled and i put the APN settings manually. I have an operator (Saunalahti in Finland) that is a virtual operator and loans a network from another operator( Elisa). I have read and heard that this is somewhat expected problem but I would like to have it removed. I haven't rooted my phone(yet) only updated via Odin.

My question is: Is it possible to have it removed somehow and get 3G working? Without rooting or only by rooting?

I got some advice from another thread "[SOLUTION] Virtual operator & Roaming sign", but i understand those operations are only possible when the phone is rooted and if those are the only ways I would need a little bit more spesific instructions, please.

One more question. Propably not for this thread neither :) but IS GB 2.3.3-2.3.6 better then old Froyo 2.2.1? I'm looking for stability, speed and good battery life and don't want to use a custom ROM. Just stocks and maybe root the phone. Been trying to find this out but always find bad or mixed opinions about this.

Thanks for any advice!

To those of you who get bootloops after flashing:

Go into download mode, and flash this, via odin, after you unzip it. (i.e. flash the .tar file, as usual - not the zip).

    View attachment dbdata.zip

    Cheers :)

Explanation: The bootloops are caused because the dbdata file is missing from the rom (it's just a Kies upgrade, not a full rom), and you probably ticked repartition when flashing.

I seriously ask myself if Samsung has only idiots as developers.
This new firmware is the worst I've ever seen:
Nearly all new games like temple run are lagging while they are working fine on ICS.
touch sensitivity is just incredible bad and because of that handling is sluggish. Sometimes swipe is working sometimes not and instead u open an app.
Don't they test their roms they bring out and don't they compare them to other roms which are out there to get a benchmark?
They would see that their roms are the worst out there.
    I'm so angry about this.
Since the last "value pack" they had month and still there's the charging bug so when battery is lower than 15% phone states "charging" instead of "low battery".
Come on - are these guys total amateurs?
Can a developer be so blind and dumb? Just one look in a xda firmware thread and they could see so many bugs. Bugs which are existing for months now.
Will go back to ICS. Sammy should pay these guy, because all the big developers are doing here is 100% better than what sammy devs are doing.
