1. Download and install LATEST SAMSUNG KIES (or stand-alone USB drivers if you can find them)
2. Transfer the attached file root.zip to the EXTERNAL CARD on Galaxy Tab 7.7
3. Turn off the Galaxy Tab 7.7
4. Enter Recovery
- Hold Volume UP button + Power Button
- When TAB turns ON, RELEASE POWER BUTTON (Keep Holding Volume UP Button)
- Will Enter Recovery
5. Select install update from EXTERNAL Storage
6. Look for the file root.zip and select it with power button
7. When Finish, REBOOT. You're done!

Enjoy!

UPDATE:
Since we now have a ICS ROM for our lovely niche tablet, at this stage we still don't have a stand-alone root.zip which is ICS compatible, so the above method WILL NOT WORK if you are already on ICS. However, don't panic, the easy way around this is:

If you are already on ICS, flash back to stock using PC Odin, or Heimdall.
Once you have done that, and you are successfully back on Honeycomb, you can use the above method to root your device.
Once you are rooted (in Honeycomb), you can then install Mobile Odin (thank you Chainfire!).
Now you can flash to ICS using Mobile Odin with the "ever root" option enabled.
You should now have ICS and root access!

Enjoy!
I have followed these instructions to the "T" over and over again. My problem is when I try to open the file in download mode, I get the
E: signature verified failed error every time. I have no idea how to root my phone if I can't get past this. It has something to do with zip files have to be signed by Samsung. I would really really love some help with this. Two days into this and I'm going to go crazy because I don't give up. thanks in advance!

I had the exact same problem and gave up. Thankfully the ICS (wipe version) of Electron aleady has root feature embedded. So everything is rooted perfectly.

Your only option is installing CWM and then run the root application. I believe you are rooting through stock 3e instead of CWM.

A guide to root your device easily with ICS Firmware: flash TWRP, Go to it (Pressing Volume Up and power till your phone starts and release power button once device started) and reboot your device to system It will tell you that your device is not rooted would you like to install super su? Swipe your finger to install it and restart, after start your device you should start super su installer it will guide you install su binary either through google play or TWRP and after downloading restarting and installing enjoy your rooted phone

For i815 users, this method more than likely will not work for you, in order to root your tab safely you must;

1. Install kies and Odin
2. Download cwm-recovery.tar and root.zip in their respective threads. Copy only the root.zip on to external SD.
3. Get your tablet to download mode, turn off kies from taskbar and open Odin, then install cwm with all Odin check boxes unchecked (very important) you do not want the device to boot either. Use PDA mode.
4. Carefully enter recovery straight out of download, if device boots regularly you must repeat cwm install. Then install root.zip and make sure to check yes when cwm tells you to keep the root!
5. Restart and make sure you have su!
6. Think twice about installing custom ROM, there is only Cm and pa available currently and its a bitch to go back to stock..

If you don't know download mode it recovery modes consider doing some research!
