Well guys I got the new cable and it works flawlessly. Not sure why the old one worked a few times before crapping out. It almost would have been better if it didn't work at all - it would have saved me some time and effort. All's well that ends well though.

Can you share the identity of the cable you bought? I'm having a hard time finding one. Bought 3 of the Hong Kong cheapies and they are all pieces of crap that don't work. Getting sick of throwing away a buck here, buck there....

FYI, AL Mass Storage Manager is a good app for seeing and mounting usb sticks. I noticed that sometimes i have to reboot with the powered hub plugged into the kindle at boot.

thanks but this did not help me. It says its mounted but nothing opens up. At least with StickMount I can open my small usb thumb drive.

Try to make data factory reset, but make backups of all your apps in titanium backup before proceeding.
