Please keep in mind once again that most of us are grown adults with full-time jobs and children. We will post updates as they happen, so please don't keep repeating the same questions.

If you want to "chat" join us on IRC or use the old forum as stated in the first post of this thread. Once again this thread is being littered with random chat that is not needed.

Thanks for your cooperation anf we will keep you updated. :p

I think we have found a matching partition map from the Galaxy W? I don't remember where I read that.
Here's the latest partition map info I have. This is more detailed than my previous post where I linked to the Galaxy W partition map (but that link turned out to be absolutely correct, just missing some of this info):

  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 secboot2 partition map
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 dbl.mbn (baseband firmware)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 osbl.mbn (boot loader)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 MBR extended partition table
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 EMMCBOOT.MBN (boot loader, has odin download mode)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 amss.mbn
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 emmcparam.bin
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 boot.img (linux kernel)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 adsp.mbn (more baseband firmware)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p10 rmt
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p11 rmt
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 persist.ext4
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 recovery.img (linux kernel+initrd for recovery mode)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p14 param
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p15 system.ext4
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p16 cache.ext4
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p17 data.ext4
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 preload.ext4 Note: this is supposed to be copied to /mnt/sdcard during recovery. The filesystem is broken and odin also does NOT re-flash this partition. In other words, this can be ignored/deleted; Samsung left it in a broken state.
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p19 was supposed to be all 0's - it appears this gets clobbered when the phone is first flashed (in the Samsung factory) but never used after that.
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p20 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p24 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p26 all 0's
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p27 efs (encrypted fs)
  • /dev/block/mmcblk0p28 /mnt/sdcard (the entire /dev/block/mmcblk0 is an emmc "sd card" which is why if you add a micro-sd it's mounted at /mnt/sdcard/external)
I'm unemployed, and could use some encouragement. Get $10 at wepay.com by using my referral link: https://www.wepay.com/x2walzl - it's like paypal without the evil.

Edit: this thread adds more info on the preload.ext4 partition

I think if a ROM does become in development, it should keep the stock Samsung Browser, as it provides the smoothest scrolling through hardware acceleration.

The stock webkit samsung browser is very responsive but a lot of the features from the stock CyanogenMod browser are useful, especially the user agent switcher. Implementing features into ROMs is something we can work on once we get a recovery working.

I'm more of a ROM/Theme dev than anything else.

What really scares me is the encrypted files. Is this the same stuff the HTC's were coming out with? Cause I don't think anyone is gonna leak a s-off bootloader, if I remember those guys had a gazillion signature petition to change HTC's mind.

I realize this is a development thread but I had a question that I haven't seen answered anywhere. I was curious, does the Exhibit II have a glass screen or is it plastic? Thanks.

Im not exactly sure, but as long as the bootloader isn't encrypted and locked like HTC did, we should be fine.

I would just like to thank all of you developers for coming up with this tread. You guys really helped me out with getting my phone from being bricked backed to factory default settings. :)

Hi and welcome to the "Semi-Official" Samsung Exhibit II 4G Development thread! Please keep in mind that all Info/Links/Roms/Kernels, etc. will be updated frequently as this is a Work In Progress[WIP].

This thread has been created for Development Chat Only! Please keep all questions not related to direct development in the thread located HERE. Thank You for your cooperation!

Now let's get to the Good Stuff!!

    *1*
Rooting Your Exhibit II 4G(How-To w/drivers)

Fortunately we have been able to gain root access using the Zerg Rush method. Use the instructions below to gain root on your Exhibit II 4G.

    A. Download SGH-T679 USB Drivers(I have hosted them for you)

    B. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your Exhibit II by going to Settings/Applications/Development and checking USB debugging.

    C. Go ahead and unzip the USB drivers from section A and plug in your Exhibit II to the Computer.

    D. When the "Installing New Hardware" or "Installing Drivers" notification comes up, please direct your computer to the unzipped directory. *Some with Windows 7 will not have to worry about this as your computer will automatically install the correct drivers*

    E. Download Zerg Rush Root.zip(I have hosted it for you)

    F. Unzip Zerg Rush Root.zip and run the batch file(runme.bat)

    G. Sit back and watch as your Exhibit II 4G is rooted!

    Cyanogenmod 9 ICS

With arco68's guidance, this weekend I've successfully build CM9 and booted it on the Exhibit II 4G. It's by no means usable, and won't be until I build a suitable kernel and do further testing. I'll be starting on that next week. This may never reach release, but I wanted to let you know that it was being worked on. Wish me luck, and please don't bug me for updates or etas. I'll post more about CM9 when I have more to say.

    progress

    Some progress.

CM9 is booting with a proper T679 kernel, wifi works, calling works, google apps work. Timezone incorrect, camera broken.

Edit: sms/mms works. GPS works. 3G/4G works.

    About screen attached.

I'm sorry to see that my efforts to do radical things like posting Galaxy Exhibit cm9 questions in the Galaxy Exhibit cm9 thread, and moving other conversation to threads where the OP has information updated with info useful to new users rather than threads abandoned by the OPs,are met with scorn and snark.

I made multiple requests to XDA mods to have the abandoned legacy ("dead") threads ownership transferred to someone who would do basic upkeep. I suggested KemikalElite. It was promised but never happened. So, anyway, I'm done. Do what you like.
