What did you use to try unlocking the bootloader?

The latest flashtool is the best way to go. It is found here:

http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/

You just need to make sure you meet these requirements:

kernel versions=2.6.29,2.6.29-00054-g5f01537
android versions=2.1,2.2,2.3
Rooted=true
compatible devices=X10,E10,E15,U20

Yes download root checker from play to check root. Also to check bootloader type *#*#SERVICE#*#* select service info then software info and look at s1 boot version it will begin with r. If its capital R its still locked, if it lowercase r then it successfully unlocked. Or try to flash doomkernel or unlocked bl and c if it flashed. S1tool also checks it I believe but never used it
