nevermind, found it. you have to select menu, then back (not the hardware back button, but the soft menu "back" option).

They use jk4 on serendipity which I've been using. Good batt drain. Good speed. Horrible gps. Saw 4 locked 0. Went to jl2...great batt life, great speed, awesome gps. Saw 7, locked 7 withing 10 sec in my apt. Haven't tried it on the road yet. Still VERY happy with my switch.

With gps on this drained my battery big time. Also wouldn't lock while moving. Went back to jk4.

Sent from possibly the coolest device in history...besides the iphone of course.

Went from i9000ugjk4 to i9088znkp1 and will report back how the GPS acts.

Phoenix 4.5, the GPS wasn't very good before the modem update. I tried the entire drive home, all 15 minutes to get a lock in Google Maps without success.

I retract my last reply about bvjjpd. Data speeds where I work are not consistent at all and I am currently using the modem at my house and its absolutely fine to use.

In addition bvjjpd seems to be a godsend for battery. Been running pandora for about 15 mins. On the train and its only dropped battery 1%. If I was using my all time favorite jl2 I would be down 3% by now.

My final post edit for this modem:
Battery and data are outstanding, but, when on a phone call with my wife, it was as if my mouth was covering the mic, according to her. She said voice became clearer when I pulled the phone away from my face. This is the same reason kp1 doesn't work for me either. Anyone know of a fix for this or is it a regional fault? I know there are few on this forum that have had success with kp1.

Well, in terms of signal, jl2 is far more reliable. The JPM modem well have very dynamic signal reception, meaning it will have strong signal one second and the next barely any. Battery life is pretty bad, 10 percent drain in that last 20 minutes, just from using tapatalk. GPS, is pretty lousy, very inaccurate, etc. Hears the link to the download

http://www.teamkomin.com/content/modems

After a little research, it seems like its a pretty old modem actually, but regardless i havent seen anyone mention it in this thread so i thought id still offer my two cents.

ive been using jpm for 3 days now and it's been fantastic for me...5% battery loss overnight with data enabled, 7% battery playing pandora for an hour and a half, gps is spot on, and 3-4 bars of signal everywhere.

Sent from a phone, playing a phone, disguised as another phone.

Been using kp1 with Precision & recently got a "R" at signal bars??? What's up with that? Any thoughts...

On the good side, The T959TLJL3 has been the best all around modem. Great GPS, moving or stationary. It does seem to change between 850 & 1900, depending on the phone position, when running *#0011#. My only complaint is from people on the other end.

I loved the Telus modem JL3, but when coming out of airplane mode (I am into airplane mode daily as I am an air ambulance pilot) I get "Sim card removed, restart phone"

Dunno how to go about fixing that but it sucked. Best speed, gps and battery I have seen. Went back to znpk1...

Attached are CWM flashable 2010 & 2011 SGS modems that (for the most part) have the WCDMA 850 band within them. A I9000 based kernel (reoriented) is required for the I9000 modems to be usable on the Captivate, I am not responsible for bricking your phone if you use something else. I did some poking around with a hex editor to compare the files and was able to pull some info out:

It appears that most people are having better success with the "Aries" based modems. If you have trouble with the modems, please make sure your phone is utilizing the WCDMA 850 band and not 1900 by using the instructions below.

From the phone Dial Pad, when you enter: *#0011# you should see one of the following 3G bands:

When testing these modems please only report when connected using "WCDMA 850".

If you are on WCDMA 1900 and want to change to WCDMA 850,
    1. From the phone Dial Pad, enter: *#2263#
    2. From the "BAND SELECTION" menu select "[2] WCDMA BAND"
    3. From the "WCDMA BAND" menu select "[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)"
    4. Exit out of menu and check to make sure your band is now WCDMA 850 using *#0011#

Note: By default your "BAND SELECTION" is "AUTOMATIC", so if you want to revert your changes, repeat only steps 1 & 2 above, selecting "[1] AUTOMATIC" in step 2.

The quote below is from a great map showing the best modem per members actual experience for various areas of the country. It's a great resource, check it out and give your input!
From http://soggycashew.weebly.com/: After digging and digging through several threads I have come up with a list of CWM3 modem files for the Samsung Captivate. I hope this helps because I know its useful to have all the files in one place and not scattered throughout forums. I take no credit for creating these files I just have been collecting them to help myself and others and to keep them all in a general location. Enjoy and hope people make comments on what they would like to see on this site!

Important: Do not flash the modem with the phone plugged into USB or the charger. It could cause a no service at restart.

Also if you don't have 850mhz and don't give a crap about 850mhz, then don't do this. Just flash to whatever modem you want.

Another note: If you flash a modem that has 850 enabled by default...you need to start the whole procedure over. If you do otherwise it may not work. So it is at your own risk.....

You need to flash or be on (UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4) and enable 850mhz ONLY by going into the dialer and type in *#2263# select WCDMA and select 850mhz. Boot into recovery and flash (BVJJPD or BVJJPG). Boot up and type in the dialer *#0011# and verify 850mhz. Reboot into recovery and flash (XXJVK or ZSJPG or XXJQ1 or BUJS1 or XXJVE etc). Boot up and verify 850mhz by entering *#0011# in the dialer. If you don't have 850mhz you did not do it correctly or your phone/ROM doesn't like the modem.

Once you verfified 850mhz above, go back into the dialer and enter *#2263# and select automatic then select menu> back. Then select combi bands and then select to add wcdma850. Now select menu>back and verify the * is next to all bands. IF so Press the back to to exit and let the modem do its job.

At this point more than likely the phone will stay only on 850mhz until you reboot.... then all the other bands will work properly.

PS: If you already have JPG, JQ1, JS1, JVE, working on 850mhz, you can flash to any of them without using the whole process above. Just flash.

    Modem Test

I decided to setup my own test featuring a block of modems that have 850mhz by default and the lower block require a little bit of effort to get them flashed on to work properly with the 850mhz band.

These are speed test with perfect signal (-75db to -85db) all using the same local server. 5 runs for each and omitting the highest and lowest of each.

Rom Used was Continuum v4 (JS8) SP#59 Kernel

From the looks of things the upload is capped no matter what modem in 850mhz.

Anyways.... I'll be using many of these modems and I can tell you that I will post which modems can perform in low signal areas ( -110db to -105db which is typically no bars to one bar) without timing out or just sitting there for what seams eternity.

I will also be testing voice quality during my highway commute. I can tell you that some of these modem sound pretty bad on the highway using the phone with no BT headset.
