Unless you are developing you don't really need to know much. Partitions means divided up. In our case, the storage of our phones is broken up into separate parts. To install certain ROMs and other things you must have the right partition layout. To install most Jellybean ROMS in the development section you must have the updated, what they refer to as "RPM/TZ" partitions. To do so you have to use a Teenybin. If you want to convert and install N4 ROMs, you must use what they tell you to in the convert thread or you will brick.
You forget to Menton the n4 stacks are related to the unlocked bootloader. Sb1, sb2, and sb3 are all related to the boot loader.
