I just got the final reply call back from Samsung China support today. They have offered to refund me my money and take the phone back. A tacit acknowledgement that it doesn't work.and of course now they change the specs on their website.
Totally disappointed with Samsung now. I hope Samsung corporate head office in Korea is aware how their subsidiary company in China treats its customers.

i think we need to disclose this issue to media.
it is totally unacceptable to change the specs on website to fix the problem.

We need an official apology from Samsung.
If they can fix it, we need a timeline for it.
If they cannot, they should offer the refund for all customers.

I'm convinced, that the issue can be handled by an updated baseband in a new firmware. Unless the chipset is incorrectly soldered...

Hi all,

Im using the N7102 in Europe and work fine,

You guys should put more pressure ;

Contact Engadget and really go to lawyer to at least send some letter to the HQ in China and Korea of Samsung.

With copy s:print outs of the false advertisement.

Im sure there will be reaction on some official letter from lawyer group.

With all respect they dont care for some forums ...

So somebody must invest a few 100 dollar to a lawyer (just for a letter).

Its just my advice

Ciao

I will place a call myself to Samsung and get a refund. I am not about to let me phone sit here while waiting for such a "reputable" international company [cough cough] to fix a coding problem.

That GSM with 850 is still just Edge.

-Raj

Some others reported SIM2 totally unusable. If it connects to 850 GSM/EDGE, that is what Samsung originally specified.
Does 850 GSM work or does not? I'm getting confused here. Is it just limited HSDPA bands we are talking about or also regular GSM 850 problems?

i don't think it's just the branch's problem, it's the culture of the whole company.

850mhz gsm works for slot 1, not slot 2. wcdma 850mhz is not working for slot1. (slot 2 doesn't support wcdma at all)

Latest update from bbs forum

Beijing on February 22 5.45PM update 6 by verbal results everyone's efforts!
Samsung now proposed, if the nominal frequency is not working, willing to return. And again modify the frequency of the Unicom version of the Samsung official website. But this time we're more prepared, screenshots of web pages have html saved pages. And in some overseas friends to be handed the lawyer letter, call back call from abroad, loud fan a slap in the face (until their customer service department only service domestic, can not fight the foreign phone must remain domestic calls) return, in fact, a person a businesses bottom line responsibility for their defective products. And the returns are the most reluctant to see the results we all N7102 user. I do not know here will have Samsung's official personnel, but I want to appeal to two things: 1. was wrong not afraid. Practice makes no over? Company products are likely to be wrong. But wrong, to admit, we have to change. First of all. We need dialogue, so Samsung China or Korea, the engineer responsible for the development of baseband drive out to explain. The end is a hardware problem or a software problem. Can not be repaired, how long will it take? We Chinese people are not unreasonable. Admit its mistake and is willing to modify, we are willing to give you time. We had to wait! If there is no way to repair. Must apologize to all N7102 users on the official website. Do you think I buy 6000rmb, refund 6000rmb, we're even? Plane abroad, the phone does not take the man in embarrassing way streaking feelings, who can understand? Again. Operators to provide goods or services according to the provisions of section 49 of the Consumer Law: fraud, should be in accordance with the requirements of the consumers increase the compensation for the loss, increase the compensation amount for consumers to purchase goods price or receive services costs times. retire a compensable First, the law! not directly refund trouble!

I think we all know that Samsung is not going to do anything until this issue gets some press. I doubt the low level bosses are even telling the higher ups there is this sort of problem. I suggest we concentrate our efforts on getting this snafu published in a site like Engadget and it's Chinese equivalent.

Trust me we have a better chance of getting a response from media outlets than trying to badger Samsung customer service.

We should write to:

1. Android news sites.
2. Gadget news sites.
3. Apple centric news sites. (the apple fan boys are going to have a field day with this. Being that Samsung lied about specs on a flagship device and since it's close to GS4 launch. It would create enough paranoia with the buyer to affect sales of the new flagship.)
4. Chinese gadget sites.
5. Chinese phone news sites.

I'll start writing letters to the sites that I frequent for news. I'll start with the websites that reported the availability of a dual sim note 2 first, that way they can link this to their previous article.

Once it's in the media Samsung will give a decent official response, not this replacement crap and changing specs on their website.

Don't they do testing on spectrum analyzer and get the spec right before this product is launch? With this mistake they made is totally unacceptable.

I think we should be constructive and give them a chance to handle the issue. We should find a way to get some engineer figure out if it's a hardware restriction or software flaw. I still believe, that based on the ICs used for the product it should be capable of handling 850 WCDMA on SIM1 and 850 GSM on SIM2. I hope they can update the baseband.
Are there any places in China, Taiwan, Korea or other countries it is officially sold where a provider use 850GSM? That can be a target to claim and test.

Dw.

    Mar 2nd Update

Sorry I didn't keep this post update regularly.

But I didn't rest. I have already gathered more than 200 people in China fighting against Samsung over the N7102 Baseband issue.

We are trying in every possible way to push Samsung, and force them to face us.

We already have a lot of media following this issue about Samsung's false advertisement on this issue, and we are trying to taking Samsung China to the court as well.

At the same time, Samsung is trying to stop us.

They negotiated with a lot of medias to stop their news on their website and megzine.
They bribed most of chinese video hosting site to delete my demonstration video.

    We will not stop !

Here's two things that you can do if you want to help us:

    1. We are trying to gather as many as possible signned paper to file 315 report.(BBB in China)
download the docment below, sign, and send to our email 631265979@qq.com

    2. If you live in New York, please contact me right away. I hope we can have some people go to
March 14th's Galaxy S IV lauch event with a big sign to tell Samsung head office, N7102 have a problem.
I beleive if Samsung Korea or their head office are aware of these issue, a solution will come out very fast.

Re: Dual Sim Dual Stand By N7102 to work in North America with GSM + 3G

I am visiting family in China for Chinese new year.
We called the samsung support line today to complain about the lack of 850Mhz WCDMA support.
After 20 minutes discussion in which they tried every excuse why it is my fault, or the sim card is faulty, etc they finally agreed to escalate the problem.
I have been promised a return call within 24 hours.
    Will cross fingers.

    Feb 16th Update

After took apart the N7102, the Base Band chipset in the phone is Qualcomm ESC6270+ Intel XG626

Intel XG626 supports GSM 850/900/1900/2100 + WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 without a problem, a lot of phones are using this chipset.

But I can't find any information about Qualcomm ESC6270

The only thing I found is a LG C320 phone with repair manual HERE

This phone use ESC6270 with Support GSM 850, but in this manual, some places says it has ESC6270, some places says it has QSC6270.

If any one can figure out more from here, please let me know.

    Original Post

According to 60 pages thread in here,

the conclusion is N7102 will not work on 850 1900 WCDMA in Slot1 and 850 1900 GSM Slot2

I already sent report to Samsung China official website, and hope they can finish the update soon

    ===========================
here is a possible way that might let the 850 and 1900 work. But with current ROM version, it's not working.
    http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=37162564&postcount=523

May be we can try flash international N7102 rom instead of the China Unicom one.
I don't know where to find it tho...
    =============================

    Summary of the Problem:

    Micro Sim, Slot1
    Should be
    GSM 850/900/1900/2100
    Plus
    WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100

    Actual:
    GSM 850/900/1900/2100 ALL works
    WCDMA 900/2100 works
    WCDMA 850/1900 not working

    Big Sim, Slot2
    Should be
    GSM only with 850/900/1900/2100

    Actual:
    GSM 900/2100 works
    GSM 850/1900 not working
