Well I got go launcher up and running, but the problem is, I can't figure out how to actually install any apks. Can anyone explain how to actually launch apps via go launcher? Rest assured, it'd be appreciated.

What worked for me:

On a computer, go to amazon.com and on the right side, enter in an email address that you'd like to have the amazon apk to be sent to

Open that apk, install it on the NT. From there, Start downloading apks from the amazon app store.

If someone else has a better way, please correct me!

Successfully playing 1080p with Xvid encoding.

Using MX player, i am currently playing a 1080p Xvid at full speed. Hazza! no converting media for me!

In other news, Spotify is also working. However it does not scale perfectly on a 7inch display.

Direct links to the Apks attached.

Thanks downsay, that worked like a charm.

robertely, can you explain the process you used to get MX player on the tablet?

I'm a wee bit confused.

Yay, I was able to get Quadrant to install and run on this device. In case anyone is wondering the score was 1819. Lower than I had thought, but then again its also running GoLauncher and the B&N launcher...

Edit: I also got some system information, that may or may not have already been known...

The GPU is a PowerVR SGX 540, version OpenGL ES-CM 1.1
It has the usual blevy of sensors, but also includes a pressure sensor like the Xoom and Galaxy Nexus.
The CPU does in fact run at 1GHz, and the min freq is 300MHz.

I attached a text file to my post (I'm too new in these parts to post links) In the file is a link to the Mx player APK, Open that on your tablet, and install like you did the launcher.

when Finished press the 'n' button, and search for mx. It should come up.

Thanks robertly, that worked just fine.

Regarding button savior: I got it downloaded and installed, but I can't figure out how to enable USB debugging. Can anyone shed some light on that? I read through the thread but nothing I saw in here seemed to work. Help?

Sorry for spamming here but I just wanted to give a heads up on MX Player:
Using the SW Decode (Fast Mode) I have gotten the thing to play a 720p high profile h.264 with 2.0 AAC in .mkv container and subtitles embedded to play nearly without hiccups. No dice on 1080p high profile h.264 but hopefully once HW decoding is out this can be fixed or at least 720p is rendered 100% smooth.
Sorry again for repeated posts but the dream of 720p in bed is one which I cannot give up.

By the way, did anybody try to install Nook Color Tools from Nook Color's autonooter? I think it can work with Nook Tablet, which seems to follow Nook Colors's software design guidelines.

Are you shure that HW decoding is disabled? I can speculate that NT supports the same video formats, that Archos G9 tablets do : http://www.archos.com/products/gen9/specs.html?country=us&lang=en

Code:
Video Playback1
 • MPEG-4 HD (up to 1080p)
• MPEG-42 (ASP@L5 AVI, up to DVD resolution)
• H.264 HD (HP@L4.2, up to 1080p@30 fps and 1080i/720p@60 fps)

With optional plug-in:
• Cinema: MPEG2 (up to DVD resolution MP/D1)
With the above codecs, the device can play video files with the following extensions: AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP, MPG, PS, TS, VOB, MKV, FLV, RM, RMVB, ASF

Audio Playback1
• MP3
• WAV (PCM/ADPCM)
• AAC3, AAC+ 5.13
• OGG Vorbis
• FLAC

Could it be that your 720p H264 MKV was encoded with incompatible settings, like level 5.1 instead of supported 4.2?

has anyone had any luck with google market? Amazon app store works great and so does its music player for downloading and playing cloud music. i installed google music but only has offline support. I dont know of a way to authentic a google account. A work around would be great.

I was wondering the same thing.

The Kindle Fire has now got the Google Market running and I wondered if the same process would work for the Nook. If it did or if an alternate means of installation worked it would be the pushing factor to get me to get the NT.

Once I enabled USB debugging (twice, no idea why it shows up twice), it mounted properly and showed usb debugging in task bar. SuperOneclick, however, keeps locking up after killing ADB and relaunching it. Tried both standard and shell roots, and ran root both standard and as admin. There appears to be no simple way to tell the nook NOT to enable USB storage when connected, so that may be the issue.

Just in case it's just something with my win7 laptop, I'll try again with ubuntu on another machine.

No good, can't get superoneclick to work anywhere.

And Gingerbreak doesn't work with usb debugging on?
Wait... please, can you install the NOOK Tablet SDK here and check if you can open an adb shell...?
I think you need Android Debug Bridge (ADB) configuration settings that come with the SDK.

Can you write step-by-step guide for us total noobs, please? :)

Open the following page in your web browser:
http://61.145.124.93/soft/3GHeart/golauncher/v2.65/GO_Launcher_EX_V2.65.apk

When it has finished downloading it will ask you how you want to handle the file --- Click the second option.

Bam! Go Launcher is installed. But, it will seem like it is not always there. The easiest way I have found (and thanks to someone on this forum) is just to do a serch for "Launcher" and the results should list "Go Launcher". Click that and you are back into Go Launcher.

Now to get a file manager installed.

I prefer "ES File Manager", but if you want something else, just find the APK and you should be golden.

http://www.estrongs.com/en/download.html?download=1

Once again, When it has finished downloading it will ask you how you want to handle the file --- Click the second option.

Now you can go through your entire NT directories and install APKs (note that not all of them will work. I would install MX Player, YouTube, browser of choice)

If you want the Amazon AppStore (and I would recommend that you do)
https://www.amazon.com/appstorelanding

I am sure there are some other bits of information floating out there, but this should at least get you started.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping me out in some way!

trippmcnealy, thanks for the info, it's appreciated.

Quick question: what's the benefit of having a file explorer? APKs seem to install okay with just Launcher Go (so far) so I'm wondering what I can do with a file explorer that I can't do already? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm kinda new to this stuff.

Thanks again for all the help (and that goes for everyone one these boards).

Personally for me, it is the familiarity of ES File and the ability to find files all over on the NT.

As with everything, it is all personal preference. You find what works for you and you run with it. :)

I am just glad that someone was able find out that Go Launcher could be installed. I was rather disappointed with the NT out of the box, but I am loving it more and more as I get traditional Android apps installed. Really looking forward to being about to install Gmail.

Wow, sorry about that...when I edited my post I must have accidentally removed the link:S

    This should do it:

I uploaded the google apps to a web server broken out of the rar.
    because no one likes megauploadvideodownloadtime.com
Point your tablet to the short url, and have fun!

    I also added some goodies:
    Spotify
    Go Launcher
    MxPlayer
    Amazon Market

So no one has to hunt, I have tested and installed Spotify, Golauncher, mxPlayer, the amazon market, google voice, and the Amazon Video client(Ha!)

When installing a google app, install the Google framework first.

Installing Google reader works, but i can't login. It tires to associate my phone with a google account, and fails after i try and login. There seems to be a critical dependency missing there.
Installing Youtube works, but i also can't login. Same problem as above, but at least i can still play videos.

Is there anyway to get back to the page with "Install from unknown sources" again? I can't find a way of getting there through the settings, and I'm curious if it's even accessible otherwise.

I couldn't find a way. I hacked one of my test apps to launch it. Download the tgps_launcher, and hit "start".

That's a side effect of grabbing it as an attachment from the forum.

Grab it using your computer and then copy it over and install it using something like es file explorer, etc.

    Edit -

    Here's a mediafire link -

you'll need a launcher to be able to see your apps. The nook hasn't shown the BN installed apps and the user installed apps in the same place since 1.1.

Very interesting if Zeam or Go are installable. My memory is that the old BN app installer would not install non-BN apps.
