Thank you for the positive response. Glad everything seems to work fine.
As I had to build everythring completely from scratch, there is always a certain risks to introduce some bugs.

Cool!

New Rollback zip

Good evening all,

please note, ZaneZam found an issue in the rollback zip which caused problems when restoring back to stock after toggles have been installed.

@ZaneZam. Thanks for instant reporting.

The issue is now fixed and the rollback zip can be loaded from the original post. I would encourage all to reload the zip to be prepared in case they want to roll back.

Thanks and good night
Andi

ext4 remount script released as an add-on

Hi,

on popular demand (I got many PMs on that topic after it has been brought up in the thread) I finally decided to release my ext4 remount script I am using for many months now together with Semaphore Kernel versions and file system converted to ext4.

It does nothing else than putting a small script into the init.d folder which gets executed everytime the phone starts and then remounts all 4 partitions with a commit time of 15 seconds. It does NOT remove journaling, change the writeback strategy from orderd to writeback or any other stuff, so it can be treated as fairly safe.

What should it improve? There is no confirmed status as such, but from my personal experience I feel the phone a bit more smooth and performant (as it does not do writes to the file system instantly when not required) and maybe it safes a bit battery. But only my personal opinion. You can give it a try yourself and decice.

Thanks
Andi

I feel that a commit period of up to 60 seconds is safe. ThunderBolt! have been using 60 seconds commit with no barriers for quite a while now without any problems.

Hi,

thanks for your answer, very good to get your opinion on that.

I decided to go for very safe settings for now, which I used for months without issues. I remember I had some issues with barriers set to 0 in the past.
But I might provide a second version of the add-on with more aggressive settings as well for users that are willing to take some risk :)

Just be careful with consecutive freezes/random reboots. Those can corrupt even the most hardened remounts.

Correct. Thats why I always advice to use the extended power menu or the 13 toggles mod to reboot the phone (normal, recovery, download) instead of 3rd party apps - as the latter ones usually do not shut down the system properly.

Uhm.... but so would increase the risk of data corruption in case of freezing of galaxy, or it is not so? I am doubtful about this addon

The risk is there (even with the stock remounts, there is also a risk), just that there's much more gain that can be had using the riskier ones than just relying on the stock remounts.

And thats is why I made it optional as an add on.

In theory you are right. I can just speak out of many months positive experience :)

Ok i understand.
Probably i will try it... at bottom the risk is low and i always have the backups. :)

Hi,

I think it is safe to give it a try.

I was some month ago (during tuning the script) doing a lot of "hard" tests. I.e. was using an app that does not shutdown the phone properly (i.e. QuickBoot) and in many tests I never had any data loss or corruption.

That's why I decided to release it now for you.

Thanks
Andi

Hi,
i'm trying it from yesterday.... no problem for now, and the system seems a little more smooth.
I also did a test: i overclocked at 1300 and i ran antutu benchmark for causing a freeze/reboot (my phone is stable at 1200, but not at 1300): after reboot no problem. :)
Thanks for your work!

Hi Matthias,

there is no such thing like a "best" setting as it depends on the SD card you are using.

General opinion is nevertheless: 256 or 512 for medium/average files (I use 512, so you could safely us this as well).

But: Addon3 and the SD-Card read ahead are two different things, just to make that clear.

Yes, my Ice hockey team (Berlin Polar Bears) did a real dramatic job yesterday. 10 minutes before end of game we where 2:5 behind, but managed to get up to 5:5, then overtime and we won. this means: Tuesday evening in Berlin is the big show down, the team winning this last game is German Champion)

Thanks
Andi

hi andi,

i really like your work. but is there any possibility to only remove the crt-on/off effects or make them available seperately? because i don't like them. but i want the bln-thingy and this was combined with the crt-mod too.

greetings

    Hi all,

this is the XWJW5 version of the meanwhile well-known Boeffla-Mod theme.

    Latest updates:

Addon 3 now made public as many people were interested in using my ext4 remount script for Semaphore Kernel users running on ext4. Basically it adds commit times to the file system mounts which should in theory add smoothness to the phone and might improve battery usage slightly (nothing confirmed, just personal experience).

You can choose between the known "greenish" stock theme and a blue themed mod (my personal favourite).

    Version history:

    Version 4.1
    • Transparent dialer
    • Transparent contacts list
    • Semi-transparent power saving widget with green or blue bars
    • Deodexed roms now supported (however NOT tested by me!!!)
    • Addon1 (13-Toggle Mod) now availabe for extra installation
    • Addon2 (disable scrolling cache for smoother scrolling) now availabe for extra installation

    Version 4.0

    • Stock and blue theme available
    • Battery icon with percentage numbers (green or blue circle)
    • Animated charging battery icons
    • Connection icons turn to green/blue when fully connected
    • Statusbar icons changes for blue theme
    • Extended power menu
    • Quickpanel icons (ICS style)
    • Transparency effects in pull down
    • Change overscroll glow to white for stock theme (blue for blue theme)
    • CRT off animation
    • ICS window animations
    • Autodetection of odex/deodex version to apply
    • All apks Zipaligned

In the pipeline to come in next versions:
    • 13-toogles mod
    • ZaneZams add-ons
    • ...more...

Just flash (in CWM Recovery) one of the attached versions, you do not have to care about odex or deodex - this will be handled by the installer automatically.
If you want to flash Add-ons, please flash one of the two main themes first, then apply the add-ons in the order of the add-on number:

Screenshots can be found in the thread for the XWJW1 version of Boeffla-Mod.

If you want to undo, just flash the rollback file in CWM and you are back to XWJW5 stock.

As always: Flash on our own risk! Make sure you have some space on /system left before you flash. I can and will not take any responsibility for bricked phones.

And on a very special request, I want you to know I used partially apktool (1.4.3) to do my mod. Also I used smali/baksmali 1.3.2. These tools have bugs as any other software of course, so it might come to unexpected side effects. :)

    On top of that:
I understand, many people would like to have slight deviations of this mod, different battery icons, different overscroll glow colours etc. However, I honestly do not have enough time to fulfill all your special requests.
I build this mod only for my personal use basically, so it is like it is.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

If you want to still have different Battery Icons etc, I recommend you to use the UOT kitchen (http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen) with which you can do a lot of additional tweaking yourself.
Just extract the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk files out of the Boeffla-Mod zip and load it into kitchen. As soon as the new files are built by kitchen, flash the zip file after Boeffla-Mod and you are there.

    Have fun.

    Cheers
    Andi

    Addon 1 / 13-Toggles mod released

    Hi,

just a quick heads-up - the 13-toggles mod for the quick toggle bar area is now available for both stock and blue themes.

Details and download links, as always, in the original post.

    Enjoy the weekend

    Version 4.1 released

    Hi all,

the main Boeffla-Mod themes are now completely ready.

Also, deodexed is now supported - however it is untested. So please flash on you own risk, do a nandroid backup before (your life insurance) and report back whether it worked for you or not.

The first add-on (smooth scrolling mod) is available again as well.

    Next: 13-Toggles mod...

    Thanks

    Hello Andi,

    Very nice theme.
It works perfect on my SGS.
any posibility to add the feature to remove the "swipe screen to unlock" text?

    Thanks!

    Hi dracushor87,

well it seems possible, i will take a look at. This text is really unnecessary as i think we all figured out what we have to do to unlock the screen faster then reading this help text to the end, dont we? *gg*.

    @all others around here

Back from "smali-hell" i want you to know that unfortunately it is not possible to port the JW1 Deluxe Addon to XWJW5! At least for me and at least this particular Mod. :( Samsung changed/removed so many things in JW5 related to the lockscreens that this whole Mod doesn't fit any more. Not in the slightest! I tried very hard, but my efforts all ended up in a bootloop, damn! That personally annoys me very much cause i used/loved this mod a very long time! So i am very very sorry if someone expected this release soon!
But anyway, as Andi said: That's life! :)

So the good thing about that "mess deluxe" *g* is that i was so frustrated that i've done the rest of the addons on just one eve and so they are all ready now! Looks good but still on testing by andi/me at the moment (as you know: quality first! ;)) So this new "old" stuff definitely will come soon! Stay tuned if you are interested!
