Thank you for the work you're putting into this! Its starting to look like the choice of office app to use is going to depend completely on what type of work you'll be doing. Eagerly awaiting your spreadsheet comparison.

No problem! I am doing this anyways so that I don't get surprised when I need to actually use it! I might as well share it and save others the troubles. And you are absolutely correct that the best App is dependent on what you want and need (for now; hopefully future releases will have most features in one product).

I have not had time to look into the spreadsheet comparison but it's on my list right after the Word processor!

OfficeSuitePro? It also is lacking but warrants comparison when tablet ported.

Thanks OP for the work and comparisons. I too would pay whatever the cost to rock MS Office for Android on wishful day.

In the meantime, thank the gods for VPN and remote desktop apps.

I am on both DataViz and QuickOfficeHD and they both need lots of luv to graduate from fail.

Thanks

Hey funnycreature, thanks for your thorough (as usual) and well presented comparison. Frankly, what I'm seeing doesn't look promising and doesn't leave me inclined to buy any of the office suites.

The biggest problem for me is the presentation of the documents, I'm not too botered about being able to edit them on the tablet but sometimes you just need to be able to present something properly, and this is a killer it seems for all these apps.

I'll hold out a while longer, I'd rather pay double or triple the price of these for something that functions more like Microsoft Office.

Who knows, Open(Libre)Office might get some sweet updates to become a more complete office suite.

Check out the Excel comparison on the first page

Yep, I finally managed to add the Excel (spreadsheet) comparison. I still owe you the overview table and I hope to do that next weekend.
Again, as with the other two components of the Office Suites it is all very basic and we can only hope to get a better package soon!

Do any of the 3 allow you to have multiple documents open, and have tabs or something to switch between the documents?

Anyone try Thinkfree Office on the Xoom yet? It came on my phone and isn't bad but I'd rather get something else if it doesn't play nice with the Xoom.

it would be nice if some guys were able to port a full verion of openoffice to android. We certainly could use a more robust office suite than what we got now and we know microsoft won't port over the one benefit of a windows phone - built in ms office.

Both quickoffice and docs to go have issues and need to be more robust. They also seem slow on updates.

It's pretty bad though. I hope they improve it soon.

I prefer QuickOffice, it performed well and the cloud services really are something. Now I wouldn't go as far to say that the these will replace full scale PCs but it is a start, especially considering that the Honeycomb platform is relatively new.

Planned updates

All,

I recently acquired the ASUS Transformer which comes with Polaris Office preinstalled. I already took the screenshots and will hopefully add them in the next couple of days. I also plan on adding the overview table for the spreadsheet comparison and modify the existing tables to include a Polaris Office column.
I still haven't had time to look into the Google Docs app though. Maybe in the future :)

Attention attention! Whenever you thought they were dead they're coming to eat your brains! (or whatever).
Please visit the Transformer forum for the comparison that I will update more regularly!

    PLEASE NOTE:

I do not have an updated version of Polaris if available since I am running my TF101 on an excellent custom ROM. I also have not found it necessary to update the Documents to Go comparison since the version number increased marginally (and it was never good to begin with).
I also noticed that some apps might benefit from installing the right fonts into the internal memory into root/fonts. My comparison is based on a stock scenario where no additional fonts have been installed.

    Updates
Here is the UPDATED overview table including the SoftMaker apps (although there is no "umbrella suite" like in the others). Please take some time to go through the features as some have actually improved!

I have also added the PowerPoint comparison here (did I really never have a separate post for it?) with the most recent office suites and updated the Word comparison.

I also took a screenshot of the "welcome" screen of each suite:

This post is to illustrate the differences in rendering/interpretation of the different Office Suites. The PowerPoint file contains three slides; the first showing the different graphics, the second showing some text formatting, and the third one a table and a graphic with some MS Office 2007+ effects.

    Spredsheet comparison [Updated 02/18/2013]

A good spreadsheet can be used for hundreds of purposes: Inventory, checklists, schedules, shopping lists, etc. I think that this is one of the most important reasons to have a powerful mobile computing device! Unfortunately, there are still severe shortcomings with the currently available spreadsheet apps.
