It does appear I misspoke a bit. I should have used modem, rom, and kernal. It was late for me when I responded I used someone's phrasing not thinking clearly. Although, all three do make up the firmware, or at least most of it. My apologies for any confusion.

Nonetheless, the other than bad phrasing, the process should worked for me without having to revert back to LJC from being on MA5 to go to MA7. I haven't had issues with phone or connecting to the Network or using LTE.
No prob. It's moot now. Now there is an actual all in one firmware zip. (I hope. I haven't actually used it or dissected it myself, but at least it claims to have everything not just the modem.)

Just to be clear, and it sounds like you understand this now so pardon me for restating, having ma7 rom and not having problems using lte does not mean you had ma7 firmware. It just means whatever firmware you had still worked ok with ma7 rom.

Firmware is unfortunately a nebulous term in this case that includes more than one part and I'm not even sure what they all are, just that they are more than the modem.

Even the about device screen doesn't display everything. That's what I was trying to make clear.

Anyway, no more problem now that there is a full firmware zip.

Yeah I usually just wait for a reliable development team to hash through the newest leak and put it in their rom before I mess with it. If you have ever bricked a phone by jumping the gun like I have you feel me on that.
Haven't seen any bugs with the update. And a big reason to update is for Google wallet support. Plus phone seems speedier and smoother. Some have even said they now have more room on their phone. I guess we'll see if any bugs are discovered. Oh and you can no longer force roam unless you root. That's about it plus you get all the little settings tweaks.
