I do find that if you are not installing a screen protector as the device is fresh out of the box, it helps a lot to wipe the screen using a small quantity of lighter fluid on a lint free cloth.

Won't lighter fluid leave behind oil? Also won't it harm the glue on a protector? I just use the soap/water spray that comes with it.

I don't endorse this idea at all for any number of reasons. I completely fail to see the benefit and predict only downsides to this method.

Screens are so durable now, I really don't see the need, but I guess it's up to you. I really dislike screen protectors.

Ah, I mean the screen itself, not the screen protector. If you are using a lighter fluid like the regular Zippo ones, they evaporate, and don't leave any oily residue.

It helps to remove any sticky residue and oil on the surface of the screen. Would you tell you why do you think there would be possible downsides to this? I've worked in a gamestore for 2 years and this is the industry- recognized standard to clean a screen before a screen protector installation, if the installation isn't done on a device straight out of the box.
