Question [Q] Couple of questions

Hi everyone,

I have a X10 since september, but I'm kind of a noob with all this X10-modding thing. Please move my topic if it's not in the right place. I have a couple of questions, and sometimes you're gonna think that I'm an idiot, but I prefer to be sure of what I have to do exactly before I do anything.

So my X10 is branded with a Orange France rom, which is still in firmware 2.0.A.0.504 (baseband 2.0.46). I don't have multitouch at all and it's laggy.

First, I read this topic about backing up my current rom (in case I have a problem and/or I have to send it to repair). I have downloaded Bin4ry's flash tool and seen that I can use it to extract .sin files from FILE_XXXXXXX files. Is this method still ok ? The link to the jerpelea SIN Reconstructor is dead, so is it possible to reconstruct the ftf file with Bin4ry's flash tool ? If yes, what files do I have to put in the bundle (I don't obtain the same files as in the tutorial) ? And when I get the ftf file, in order to get my phone back to its original firmware, do I simply have to add the ftf file in the firmware folder and then flash ?

I also have another set of questions ^^. For example, if I root my X10, then I modify the build.prop file (as described in this topic) to match a generic code, and then repair my phone through PC Companion / SEUS, will I get a generic rom ? And if I want to switch back to my original firmware, is putting back the original code and updating enough ?

About basebands now : if I download a rom, is the baseband file already included or do I have to include its .ftf file too ? How exactly does this work ? (I have read a lot of people saying that it's important to have a baseband matching your rom, but I didn't get how to actually do it ). I assume that SEUS / PC Companion do the baseband update automatically ?

I have read quite a lot of tutorials, not always understanding every step. Thanks a lot to those who will answer my noob questions...

Read this thread and ALL of Flashtool howto guide. The files for getting the latest baseband are in there along with the the howto guide. The howto is by Rendeiro2005. Read that.
That will help you get the download the latest baseband and use flashtool to flash it to your phone. Keep posting with questions if your still stumped after looking at it. Good luck.

Here is the link to flashtool:

I use the .54 baseband.

Thanks for your answer Voelker45.

I have read the flashtool tutorial (the how-to for n00bs, lol), but it's still unclear wether I need to use a separate .ftf file for the baseband or not.

What about backing up my current rom and changing the code in build.prop ?

Thanks

Don't separate the ftf file and don't change the code for the build.prop. I never heard of changing that code so never changed it. Just use the ftf file as is and you should be good to go for flashing. Put the ftf file in the firmwares folder of flashtool and the steps of the guide SHOULD help you from there. Keep posting if you have questions.

Backing up won't help you till you have xrecovery. which I can help you with when you finish with flashtool and then rooting the phone. Flashtool is going to get rid of all data on phone when you flash the latest baseband.

Thank you . I am not going to do this now (I'm a student and I have an exam next week), but probably in one or two weeks. I'll keep you posted when I proceed !

So there is no build.prop method ? Then how can you restore your original branded rom ? =S
