Default Capdase leather case problem

I just got my Capdase black booktype leather case, and I noticed something weird about it.

Whenever I put the phone in the case, the phone doesn't detect when I open the hardware keyboard, thus when tapping a text box the softkeyboard shows even if the hardware keyboard is open. I also tried removing the phone and just placed it back to back with the hardware kb open and with enough distance (about 0.5cm) it indeed does the same behavior (the phone thinks the hardware keyboard gets closed when it's near, and detects open when not so close)

I'm thinking it might have something to do with magnets, not sure tho. Anyone gets the same behavior?

Googled this issue, and your post showed up.

Yep, I have the same problem. It looks like the magnet is screwing up the phone's sensors.

I am contemplating having the magnet at the back removed and replaced with a one peso coin (need a good seamster to sew the case back), rather than going back to the shop and returning the case. This is my 3rd case, the first two (from games & gadgets) do not last long, plastic holder breaks after a few weeks.

In general, cases with magnetic lock closures tend to do bad things to the sensors of mobile phones. I suspect that these sorts of cases are cheaper to produce than ones that require tabs with manually-stitched loop holders, hence their prevalance. I suggest you avoid them entirely.

It's always buyer-beware with phone cases. Some even manage to do the very things they're supposed to prevent: scratch, smudge or otherwise damage the aesthetics of the device. I once had a case that had leftover glue stuck to the surface of its interior lining and it got onto the back panel of my device. Fortunately, there was no permanent damage but that case went straight into the dumpster.

For my desire z, I ordered the official htc pouch from expansys. Noreve also uses non-magnetic locking solutions on its cases but its cases are pricey, moreso if you're the sort that changes phones often.

Went back to the store and replaced it with a Capdase Smart Pocket for the HTC Desire Z. Much happier now with the new case.

That one has a pretty strong magnet on the back that comes right around where your device's compass array is. It's where the magnet for the pull-tab is located. Try placing a metal paperclip. It'll stick pretty tightly. I had one of those and got rid of it because of that.

Is this the case you have?

I'm obsessed with how amazing it is. Just bought another one from expansys for backup.
