Default Low on space error

So I went to bed last night with my phone working fine but when I woke up this morning I had a red sd card in the notification bar with a message saying "Low on space - Database storage is getting low". Now everytime I reboot my phone I get this error immediately along with a constant stream of force closes such as LauncherPro and LogsProvider.

I managed to get into the Manage Applications screen once or twice by pressing on the error in the pull down menu but I did not see any single application taking up a crazy amount of space which seems to be the case for most people that get this error.

Any suggestions? Would wiping all user data from the recovery menu do anything to fix this?

Go Settings> SD card and phone storage and look at internal SD card and see how much is available, then look at internal phone storage and see how much is available.

The problem is that I can't get to Settings because everything (including the launcher) force closes as soon as the phone boots up.

Well to be honest losing my data is better than not being able to use my phone at all at this point.

Low database space actually sounds like the 128mb system cache used to store most of the user data...

If you can I'd load up adb or a terminal app and run df to see how much is being used on /cache.

I agree that wiping the user data should help. It may also be a virus that is killing everything, so just in case (if you don't mind losing everything and starting fresh) a factory restore would really clean things up.

Good Luck
PM me & let me know how it goes

I ended up wiping the user data (before I saw the last two replies) since I had an important phone call that I had to make and it seems to have done the trick for now.

While googling this problem it looks like the common cause of this error on other devices is the web or mail cache growing to a crazy size. But the few times I was able to get into Manage Applications I didn't see anything like that.
