Well the kernels on the latest nightlies have the fix in them, and I believe the kernel isn't a factor anymore.

Yes it does, but you still need to download the HDMwIn app from the market

Or, get FullHDMI which works on all Evos regardless of whether they are rooted or not, has a customer kernel or not, has Sense or not, etc. Full audio is enabled for both Sense & AOSP as of the update this weekend.

or just download CM 7.0.0 stable. there you go

I can confirm that while on CM7 RC4, and using the free HDMwIn app, HDMI does work. I was playing angry birds on my 26" monitor. Awesome!
