How come mine with official firmware 2.2.2. Using default camera and it took around 1.5MB - 2MB everytime taking picture. I've not modded anything on the camera apart from rooting and overclocked.
Does this mean I have the red lense or the green lense??
Likely you have red lense, it uses less compression by default. You can check the color at the back of your phone, just look inside your camera optics. I forgot to say that this compression problem stands for green lenses.

I'm not sure, but maybe barebones ROM had some camera improvement, used lower compression.
It's very difficult to see inside the camera lens to judge the colour. But yea I guess my phone having the red lens after reading a few topics on other sites.

Deleted, just tried the main patch and it's better than the barebones one-interestingly, the mos file from bb 1.5 is exactly the same size. Getting 1.5 - 2mb now, thanks!

Did you try the patch in the first post? Do you have green lens? Dependeing on the lighting conditions and the theme the file size varies, my camera is capable to take ~ max. 1.4-1.5MB file size. When the image size is bigger, the camera freezes or there's a gray line. I'm using Antibyte's patched camera, but I think the result would be the same with the default camera app.

Okay, I tried the patched mot_ise_imager_cfg posted on the first page with default camera app, still the same problem. Looks like my Defy can't handle bigger image sizes, I have to use higher compression.

I have the green lens. I had tried the patch in the first page before but didn't make much of a difference, probably because I used another app instead of root explorer. I haven't noticed any grey line yet, or freezing on cm7 beta 6, though I haven't taken heaps of shots.
It has been really irritating me with the small files, particularly when I went through them on my pc recently and many didn't come up any good on a laptop screen.
Also, when comparing them to a friend who keeps posting shots taken with his 3mp iphone 3g, they look heaps better than alot of mine.
My Defy is green lens and I took 3 set of bins in 2 scenes comparsion.
Orginal bin (By default the first 3 sets of '4101 4407' set as 04, the 4th set is 06, the final set is 0C. Actually i don't know what's the relationship with those :P )
Far: 825KB, Micro: 262KB
franek123 bin (4101 4407 set as 01)
Far: 2.05MB, Micro: 1.55MB
- Half chances of phototaking in sunshine area will get corrupted images.
franek123 bin (4101 4407 set as 03)
Far:1.14MB, Micro: 735KB
- Continous 6 shots are all okay
