A thread on same subject - atm i'm looking into if the ambient light sensor actually saves power or if it's just annoying.

Try this:

Set wifi sleep policy to never
settings -> wireless & networks -> wifi settings
press menu -> advanced
and set wifi sleep policy to Never
press menu -> save

This part does need root though:
delete /data/system/batterystats.bin

fully charge your phone and let it full drain

The positive thing about a battery stat wipe is that the system builds new handling stats according to the actual status of the battery - for me it gave the rest - now it feels more realistic (okey - i've shaved off everything i didn't use or want) Including nerdy things like disabling the ambient light sensor which i only found to be annoying and not that "powersaving". I like to control those things myself and have used sl4a to shortcut a couple of scripts with different hardware setup - controlling the actual mA current usage on keyboard and screen does save alot of power - but the ALS is more for comfort and looks than efficient powersaving (good job SE for giving people the choice of use).
