Rom and Kernel on 9020a??

I'm coming from the Galaxy and trying to make sure I don't screw up...can I flash any roms with this version without losing my precious 850 band?? And if so how do I flash my old radio back or is it that simple? Does flashing a kernel with voodoo sound change anything that I shouldn't? Just want to make sure that I don't get in too big of mess before I do anything. Not new to Android but there does seem to be some major differences to the i9000m to the Canadian version of the Nexus S.

Any help will be appreciated.

Something I have been cautious of as well with my 9020a.

I am running the latest Netarchy kernel without problems so I think you should be fine flashing a kernel. I have stayed away from any ROM that changes the radio. I tried the NSCollab ROM and it ran without problems but decided to go back to stock 2.3.3.

AFAIK Nandroid backup does not backup the radio but I could be mistaken.
