Got a message from MultiColby1 from Youtube:

hi i have rooted the phone using gingerbreak 1.1
signed up on xda but cant leave any messages could you let the know please

He seems to have a non retail unit...

He has signed up but can't post yet.

'Already' Most Gingerbread devices, if not all, are rootable with Gingerbreak so no surprise.
