Default What's inside this baby!

Now that we have a early dump of the ROM we can see what internals this baby will be housing.

DAC: Samsung have parted with Wolfson and now incorporate a Yamaha DAC as seen below:

The Wolfson with the voodoo produced one of the best audio quality on a mobile phone, this Yamaha DAC is not really well known yet, the 2 at the end of it may suggest it's a version 2? Seems to be housing a YMU818B DAC, we won't know until someone actually compares both phones!

Well, I'm kind of depressed here, I'll take a pause and think about something else, maybe figure out another plan.

I'm not sure I'll invest in #GalaxySII. Maybe save for a tablet with interesting audio hardware?

My only hope here is that they changed the audio hardware between prototype I dumped infos from. Or that the driver name was misleading

Translation, its likely hiss will be higher, and likely it won't be possible to reduce it by much.

#GalaxySII Yamaha YMU818B / MC-1N audio codec headphone amplifier volume range is only 30dB compared to 57dB in @wolfsonmicro WM8994

Also #GalaxySII headphone amplifier alone is rated to 0.055% / -65dB THD+N, compared to WM8994 DAC+HP amp 0.01% / -80dB THD+N

Just #GalaxySII DAC is rated to a 93dB SNR in 24bit, when I measure 96dB SNR on 16bit files on actual devices with Voodoo sound.

#GalaxySII Yamaha codec has lower specs than @wolfsonmicro WM8994 present in #GalaxyS, #GalaxyTab and #NexusS

WOW! This is like... a worst case scenario!
I BOUGHT and LOVED the SGS because of it's outstanding audio quality (which even became better with supercurio's work). Now I'm really thinking about not getting the SGS II. o.O Thanks a lot Samsung, that's your own mistake...

It's possible that the pre-retail hardware is different than retail. We just have to wait and see. We need a ROM dump of the 2.3.3 version.
