Default [ISSUE] Random Areas of Touchscreen not working

Hey Guys,

I noticed that several parts of my Touchscreen aren't working from time to time. I guess it is a software issue, because the areas not accepting any touch input are changing from time to time after reboots, screen orientation changes or turning the backlight on and off again. The issue is nonexistent when freshly rebooted and seems to build up when the device is powered on and used.

Anyone else having the same issues?

Edit:

Here are some examples (dead areas are obviously the blank ones):

All gone after turning screen off and on again:

Have you tried one of those apps to test your screen and multitouch? That might show you which spots are dead (if any).

I'm already trying to document those areas with Multitouch Visualizer and a painting app

Yep, I have a stripe about 1" from the bottom edge that's consistently unresponsive. I'm going to hold out until the OTA gets fixed to see if it is maybe a calibration / driver issue.

Edit: Got Asus to give me an RMA, but they expect me to pay shipping on something broken out of the box? F that.

Hey pokey, I've got the exact same issue, easily noticeable using the keyboard in landscape, a whole row of keys in unresponsive (a little less than 1" wide). I noted, however, that as soon as I just as much as touch the frame of the TF with my finger, they become responsive (typing while touching the frame, that is). If I leave my TF on the table, not touching the frame, and trying to type on this row, nothing is detected.

So it's highly unlikely that this is a software problem. I'm thinking of RMAing this thing, though I hesitate between ASUS RMA or store RMA (in both cases I'd have to pay for shipping, bought on internet). What did you end up doing?

Sounds like a similar grounding issue that plagued the Droid Incredible where it wasn't responsive if you laid it down flat on a surface and tried to interact with it.

I have the issue, but it goes away if I'm holding it. So yeah, sounds like that problem with the Incredible. I'm probably going to return mine to Walmart and order another one, hoping that it's better.

Is that what happened with your Incredible? Rma was the only solution?

Yes, I see those same jagged lines when I try to draw slanted (parallel) lines using a paint app. Doesn't matter if I draw slow or fast, the results look similar.

I've tried to turn off the screen and on, but that doesn't seem to help; neither does grounding my fingers to the frame.

The location of this unresponsive section of screen is about an inch above the bottom of the 1280x800 screen from across left to right just where microSD slot is on the right side.

It seems to also effect the on-screen keypad (the base of the letter row below the numbers) as well as the 4th honeycomb on-screen (menu) button when apps as running and the device is in portrait mode with the camera on the right.

I usually have to hit the key/button again or more firmly to have it register.

I'm going to experiment a bit more to see if I can figure this out, otherwise, I'm going to be returning the device as "defective".

Still waiting for mine to return from RMA, it says 'waiting for spare parts' for 10 days already

Looks like I need to get an other gadget to kill time
