Default [Q] bootloader unlocking..bruteforce attack?

Hi guys,

I tried the following command to confirm that fastboot USB inteface is working.

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools>fastboot.exe -i 0x0bb4 getvar version
Returned:
version: 0.5
finished. total time: 0.007s

Now...to unlock the bootloader, I would need the unlock key which I don't have. Would a bruteforce attack for key discovery brick my phone? I could somehow come up with a script to do that, but I'm worried that I might brick my phone...

A sample bootloader unlock key: A012ABC123456789

Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY

The whole idea actually came from sony ericsson, tried the SE key generator as well, it does generates a key but doesn't work. HTC obviously uses a different RSA key.
