It is the HTC Froyo update for the Asian HTC Aria. It also has HBOOT loader 1.02, so don't flash this if you want to keep root.

For those of you that are familiar with Liberated Aria FR008, this is the source of the Hong Kong kernel that is available on that thread. From the dates, it appears that this version falls between the Gratia Froyo ROM that was released in Dec 2010 and the AT&T Froyo ROM that was released at the end of Jan 2011.

Best advice is to stick with Liberated Aria FR008 or Gene Poole's Liberated 2.2.2 and ignore this.

Do we know what was changed in the rom between the two releases? If you extracted the rom and flashed that, it wouldn't upgrade the hboot would it?

You DO NOT want to flash this ROM!!! It has HBOOT 1.02, just like the AT&T update, so it will render your Aria unrootable.

The biggest change between this ROM and the AT&T ROM is that the AT&T ROM is based on Android/Froyo 2.2.2 code base whereas this ROM is based on the original Android/Froyo 2.2 code base.

Wouldn't suggest trying that unless someone you trust has done it. There are already some fine 2.2 and 2.2.2 roms built from the HTC source, not sure why anyone would want to take a chance on un-rooting their phone to test that theory.
Nexus 4 - Nexalicious4

so if this rom is flashed, it cannot root anymore, even with something like clockwork now?

Yes that is correct. The only way this ROM can be rooted is to use the XTC Clip device to S-OFF the device. Once the device has Security Off you can flash a custom recovery and root the device, but there is no software solution available that will root this ROM.
