Default [Q] Accessing SMB Shares

I am unable to connect to any of the SMB shares on my network with the A500. Using Astro and ES Explorer, network scans fail to identify servers/shares. Even when I manually config the servers it fails. I have even moved everything from my Comcast network to my AT&T network.

I have not problems accessing them with my Droid, And I don't recall any issues with the Xoom, back when the WIFI model came out. And, I have no problems accessing the internet, market, etc.

Any ideas? Is the WIFI card in the A500 substandard? Although I could move stuff to the A500 via a thumb drive, this is a deal-breaker.

Probably the software that's not compatible, I don't see how the wifi connection can be to blame. If theres a connection to your network it should work just fine.

I tried to use astro + SMB plugin and it just instantly crashed btw.

My Acer also crashed with Astro + SMB. I've found the app File Expert works flawlessly for me. Can read my samba shares. It's free as well.

DONATE TO ME
I use AndroXplorer and can map to a server shares on Win2003R2. It even lists all the hidden shares (like c$)

works great..

I installed the CIFS kernel module and used CIFSManager to mount my network shares.

This works great for me with my XBMC server. I can see all my movies and play any of them now!

For those that try this, RockPlayer is the only one that works for me. When you click on a file, select the default browser and then Rockplayer and Viola!

4 terabytes of movies at my fingertips now... literally.

atomicwedgie,

mind sharing how you converted your movies? I have all mine sitting on a server, but none of them play on my a500. They are just non-hd dvd's converted to mp4 a while ago that worked well on my xbox 360. But now they don't work on the a500. I still have the original .vob files on my computer, so I can re-convert them, but I have tried like 3 things now and none seem to work.

Did you follow my instructions to play them using RockPlayer?

I just purchased a 2TB Network Drive (GoFlex Home) and is my first time ever hooking something up like this on a network. With all the answers that the OP has received, would these same answers apply to how I can get mines setup with my Acer?
