Unhappy [Q] strange calender/gmail syncronisation & network issue

I just got my X10 mini pro back from the phone company after I complained that I could get no signal whatsoever - they told me that the phone is effectively about as useful as a brick in low signal areas, a design fault apparently - but asked me to send it in, which I did. I *specifically* asked them not to flash the phone to the new firmware (as I had already done it) but they went ahead and did it anyway and I now have two massive problems with the phone.

The first is that it wont sync with anything whatsoever - calendar/contacts and the like, yet it will still receive email from both gmail and other services using a 3rd party app (I havent deleted the standard gmail app or anything like that), yet the old Nokia E70 I am using as a phone will sync everything to gmail including push email and calendar and the like without missing a beat. What ever I try I cannot make the X10 talk to the gmail servers - and that includes deleting user data and restarting...

The second is another major issue - since the phone has come back I cannot get on to the network at all - it tells me my SIM card is not allowed on 3's network - yet the same identical SIM can be put into the Nokia E70 and trundles off to find the network without complaint...

Does anyone have any ideas on this - because to be honest I have little confidence in the networks 'engineers' whose sole talent seems to be - reflash it and hope...

Owners of the X10 mini & mini pro - who are having problems with low signal areas - should be aware that this is a known *fault* with these phones - and as such means the phone company who supplied it will know this and therefore will have sold you a device that is not fit for purpose if you are in a low signal zone.
