Red face Unlock screen unresponsive

Put down the torch; I've searched and read the other threads regarding static buildup and screen recalibration.

On my stock Ideos X5, the screen lock is unresponsive if the camera app has been running when the screen is locked or auto-locks.

While trying to document the issue, I think I found a fix (and a bit of insight into what's happening).

When the phone is flat on a desk (so not receiving any video input), the unlock screen responds as expected.

When the phone is held normally and the camera is operating behind the lock screen, the device is painfully slow to unlock (for the swipe-to-unlock screen, pretty much impossible).

Would be interested if anyone can reproduce this on other devices.
  1. Lock and unlock your device; note how it works normally.
  2. Start Camera and lock device.
  3. Holding phone in air, try to unlock device. Note responsivity of unlock screen.
  4. Put phone flat on desk (so camera is blacked out, ie not on a glass desk ...). Unlock and note responsivity.
  5. Repeat until you're convinced I'm wrong, or right.

DONATE TO ME
Probably this is caused by the video overlay driver (mdp4_overlay).

If you can reproduce this behaviour, please say so. Otherwise Huawei (and I) will assume that the problem affects only one crazy guy on the internet (me).

Just a quick note, in solving my issue with the touchscreen. It turned to be that when the GC (garbage collector) ran it would drop input to the touchscreen. Its quite possible that its running every couple of seconds when the camera is on (likely a bug).

I have had the same problem a couple of times now. Both times the phone rang and I couldn't unlock the screen to answer it. I think the problem was that I was running an app (last time it was Aldiko, not sure about the previous time but I'm sure it wasn't the camera app) and it auto-locked while the app was still active. I've never had the problem occur when it auto-locks from the home screen or if I sleep it manually from the home screen.

It seems to be more than just the camera app that can trigger this problem. Maybe it's having any app active when it goes to sleep?
