Not really ... Shorts will usually burn a chip internally leaving no traces of what happened. Also, if there is something visible, you can also take the phone apart and clean with alcohol.

I've been using bleach on those water indicators for years now.

Another tip, if you have a hard time reaching the strip, like in my old iphone, use a syringe to get in to it.

A drop on the end of a needle will work just fine.

Had my battery in the wash and the white strip turned black instead of white. I wonder if these tricks will turn it back to white? Hmmm ...

i think if my battery went through the wash i would just repace it. Even if it were still working after drying out i wouldn't want to take the chance of it leaking any contents into the phone

I didn't have a seringe so I used Q-tips and I failed miserably, theres red line still in the middle... how can I get it to drop on it?
