Default [Q] Can’t configure email.

I received my Acer tab today and I am very impressed by the built quality. The screen is as nice as the Ipad in my opinion.

I can’t configure my Email. The incoming server works ok but I get a SSL failure for the outgoing server.

I am using the same parameters as the mail on my Windows machine. My provider is Bell(Sympatico). I contacted the Bell support group and they have confirmed that the parameters are correct but they do not support the Android system.

I am using the following parameters:
Incoming server – pophm.sympatico.ca, SSL, port 995, requires server request.
Outgoing server - smtphm.sympatico.ca, SSL, port 25, requires server request.

Can someone help me with this problem?

Thanks for your support.

Did you set Accept all SSL Certificates under security type?

only other thing I can think of is that smtp w/SSL usually uses a different port (465 is usual I think) vs 25; maybe outbound doesn't require SSL for your host?
I haven't had to configure SSL access on my pop/smtp accounts, matpybe someone else who has can confirm.

Check your outgoing server port. I know that mine is set to 587 for TLS encryption, so I am betting that SSL would also use it's standard port of 465.

Give it a shot and see what happens. I've also seen a few providers (e.g. Qwest) that require you be on their network to access their email servers for outbound mail, so if you aren't home, you may need to configure it there first for it to work.

Problem solved.

First, I tried setting the Security type to None and then to SSL, port 465 but it didn’t work. Then I changed it to TLS port 587 and to my surprise, it worked. How do you explain that the settings on my Windows machine uses SSL for incoming and outgoing mail and my Android tab uses SSL for incoming and TLS for outgoing? Go figure.

Thanks again for your support.
