Is there a way to restore my phone to factory settings, the way it came? Flashing can get pretty damn complicated when you need to do a bunch of things to get it to work properly. I don't mind waiting for updates, can anyone give me advice...? This is very frustrating.

There is a link to carrier branded firmware in the 1st post.

Download the one you need if it's there and flash via Odin.

Your device should then be stock as you bought it or updated it via keis. No root no cwm etc

Mine is factory unlocked, imported from the UK (not sure where exactly) I live in Canada. I don't see one for me.

I really prefer flashing my firmwares with Odin.

Thank you !

cheers!

I don't have root. Can this be done without root needed?
Many questions ... but I try to give some answers.

1. You can flash a new ROM (full firmware) as well as new modem (part of the firmware responsible for network and mobile connection) without having a rooted device.

2. If you want to update your phone's firmware, you should use Odin and the latest ROM found in this thread => second post for stock (officially from Samsung) or third post (Frankenstein -> manually combined using different parts for being usable for others).

3. Intratech's version of ROMs are always non-wipe, except he explicitly wrote "WIPE" next to it.
I always try to use non-wipe versions to have less work with restoring my personal settings, but sometimes (if there are problems with some apps), I have to wipe cache partition. That could be done in recovery mode and does not wipe your phone - only the cache.

Maybe too many options.
So, I recommend for you to use the following ROM from third post (Frankenstein section):
XWKI8, Android 2.3.5, This package has: PDA: XWKI8| Modem/phone: XXKI4| CSC: XEUKH2

As this is now the latest version and there is no equal stock ROM available for your region.
=> Download this exe file, extract it using 7zip to a tar file. Follow Intratech's description in first post, so this tar file has to be put into PDA section of Odin.
(Wait with flashing until you have read the next section.)

This ROM already contains English (UK, US) and Frensh ... one of this could be OK for you.
There is an individual CSC package for Canada Bell/Virgin BMCKG2 CSC underneath it.
If this sounds familiar to you (is this your current carrier?), then you should download this package - same procedure as with the ROM from above. The resulting tar file has to be put into CSC section of Odin.

Now you are ready to update your phone.

Good luck !
Phone: SGS2 (GT-I9100)
ROM: XWLSS NeatROM Lite v4.7 (PDA: XWLSS / PHONE: XXMS2 / CSC: OXFLS3)
Kernel: PhilZ-touch v5.03.0

Getting random reboots with KI8. It's a shame as apart from that it seems an excellent ROM.

After flashing you should "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe Cache partition” from Recovery Mode.

Power off phone, hold middle button volume up (or down-its one of the two!) and hold the power button all at once.this will enter the menus to select factory reset or wipe. It will show words to that effect...

In the time Ive had my gs2 Ive updated the firmware 3 times using this thread. Never had any trouble with my phone at all and always had good battery life. Ive never done a factory re set after using odin or cleared and data yet my phone works well. My girlfriends on the other hand was littered with bugs. bad battery random resets the lot. Ive loaded the same firmware as mine each time yet the problems continued. We did a factory re set over a week ago now and no problems so far. just wondering is there a reason why my phone has never needed a re set? Should I do one anyway even though its working fine? Just seems odd that two of the same device running the same firmware versions could behave so differently.
Its not a problem Id just be interested to know.
